Page 4B SPORTS East Oregonian BLAZERS: Team has 17 assists in first half Continued from 1B different type of excitement. It was my son looking into my eyes. It was different,” Lillard said Friday. But his joy was tempered because his half- brother was shot multiple times in the parking lot of a Portland-area shopping mall on Thursday night. Lillard said 20-year-old Jahrell Lillard was in stable condition. Police continue to look for the suspects. The Clippers were short-handed. The team announced that Milos Teodosic has a torn plantar fascia in his left foot and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Already missing were Avery Bradley (abdominal surgery) and Patrick Beverley (knee). But the Clippers saw the return of Danilo Gallinari, who had missed 18 games with a fractured right hand. Gallinari finished with 11 points. The first half was a highlight reel of dunks for the Blazers, who led 64-49 at the break. Collins had three dunks in the second quarter to finish the first half with 13 points, topping his career high for a game. The Blazers had 17 assists in the first half, led by Lillard with five. Al-Farouq Aminu’s layup and free throw put Portland up 74-51 early in the second half. But Davis headed to the locker room later in the third quarter. Portland was already playing without starter Maurice Harkless, who had a minor procedure on his left knee on Wednesday and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. TIP-INS Clippers: Los Angeles had won three straight in Portland. ... Austin Rivers struggled, going 1 for 8 from the floor for the game. Trail Blazers: A reporter quipped that Lillard’s newborn son had a stack of his signature shoes waiting for him. “Nothing but the finest,” Lillard laughed. Saturday, March 31, 2018 PIONEERS: Tourney continues today Continued from 1B Earls, however, could not quite carry that performance over into the second game of the day. She got the start against Rainier and allowed 12 hits, 11 runs (six earned) and walked five in 3 1/3 innings, while only throwing 50 percent strikes. In the first inning, the Columbians (4-2) loaded the bases against Earls with two singles and walk, but Earls escaped with back-to-back strikeouts. It seemed to be a momentum swing for the Pioneers, as their offense exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the first. It got started with a two-run home run to left-center field off the bat of Graci Bullock and then an RBI single by Brit- tany Wells and a RBI double from Earls gave the Pioneers a 6-0 lead. Though the Columbians finally broke through against Earls over the next two innings as they pushed across nine unanswered runs to take a 9-6 lead — one that would hold until the sixth inning. The Pioneers got two runs back on a two-run double to centerfield by Courtney Cain in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-8, and then had the tying and go-ahead runs on base before Potts’ pop out stranded the runners. But in the seventh, the Pioneers’ pitching and defense let them down again. Mac-Hi committed two errors and Rainier smacked five hits in the inning to push across seven runs to make it a 16-8 game. The Pioneers would make one last big push in the seventh. A fielder’s choice groundout by Lyon brought in a run and then a bases- loaded walk by Bullock and a RBI double by Kelly cut the deficit to 16-11. Three batters later, Potts drew McKenna Stallings, of Mac-Hi, winds up for a pitch during Friday’s non- league game against Stayton. Staff photo by Kathy Aney another bases-loaded walk to make it a 16-12 game. And with the tying run at home plate in McKenna Yensen with two outs, Yensen grounded out to shortstop for the final out, sealing the win for Rainier. The Pioneers recorded 20 hits in the game and stranded 10 runners. Lyon had the best day, going 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, while Kelly was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Earls and Kiley Reichert each had two hits in the game as well. Rainier’s Aspen Norman, Paige Kellar and Reese Schimmel — 1-2-3 in the batting order — did most of the damage for the Colum- bians. The trio combined to go 9-for-20 (.450) with two doubles, seven runs scored and eight RBI. UP NEXT Mac-Hi continues its tournament on Saturday with a pair of games. The Pioneers first play Junction City at 2 p.m. and then face Yamhill-Carlton at 4 p.m., both at Yantis Park. ———— Game 1 R H E M-H 300 210 0 — 6 7 2 SHS 001 400 0 — 5 6 4 (M) M. Stallings, S. ROUNDUP: Echo enforces the 10-run rule against Colton early Continued from 1B responded with a five-run inning in the fourth. Monique Montoya hit a grounder up the middle, and safely reached base on a error. The two-RBI scored Hart and Alex Putnam. Weems scored another run for the Cougars, and finished 2-for-5 at bats. Her two-RBI single scored Montoya and Michelle Weems. To cap off the scoring, Kennedy’s Tressa Reidman walked Alyssa Ray with the bases already loaded for Echo’s final run of the inning. But that 7-6 lead wouldn’t last long, as the Trojans scored eight more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to reach 14 on the day. The Cougars would add three more to the board highlighted by a two-RBI double from Michelle Weems. Ray was given the loss for Echo after six innings in the circle. Ray allowed 14 runs on 11 hits and struck out six batters. ——— R H E ECHO 002 503 0 10 15 5 KENNEDY 105 350 X 14 11 3 (E) A. Ray, K. Hart (7). (K) T. Reidman. HR: K. Hart (E). 3B: T. ECHO 11, COLTON 1 — After suffering the four-run loss to open play, Echo bounced back and enforced the 10-run rule by building up a 11-1 lead to end the matchup versus Colton early. The Cougars (3-2) used an early lead to gain control of the game and went up 3-0 after the first inning. Alex Putman brought in the first run on a line drive that scored Kendra Hart and Michelle Weems followed with a 2-RBI double that brought home Putman and Monique Montoya. Colton’s lone run didn’t come until the fourth inning. It was only one of two hits the Vikings (0-2) recorded. After coming within striking distance, the Cougars made sure they wouldn’t be caught in the bottom of the fourth when they scored seven runs to solidify their lead. The hitting clinic was capped off by Weems, who sent a two-run home run over left field. Echo scored another in the bottom of the fifth to push its lead to 10 and wrap up its day of play. Alyssa Ray was given the win after going five innings allowing only one run on two hits while striking out seven. ——— R H E COLTON 000 10X X 1 2 3 ECHO 300 71X X 11 12 2 (C) K. Dutton. (E) A. Ray.
