PHS seeks employers
for Career Day event
2:15 a.m. - Pendleton police received a
911 report of a burglary on Southeast Third
Street.
5:08 a.m. - A Pendleton man on
Southwest Emigrant Avenue called 911 to
report his wife was following and harassing
him.
8:01 a.m. - Cows were on the loose
at East Hooker Road and Northeast Moe
Lane, Hermiston.
12:19 p.m. - The Morrow County
Sheriff’s Office responded to Northeast
Court Street, Heppner, on a report of a
male trying to sell marijuana. The caller
also said the same person pointed a gun
at the house before. The case is under
investigation.
3:29 p.m. - A man reported he was
walking on South Main Street, Heppner, to
pick up his daughter from the library when
a male yelled and hit him. The Morrow
County Sheriff’s Office took a report.
8:22 p.m. - Hermiston police received
a 911 call reporting a fight at North First
Place and West Marie Avenue.
PENDLETON — Pendleton High
School will continue its long tradition of
hosting a school-wide day to focus on
what happens after high school and the
world of work.
The April 11 event will host dozens of
community business owners and leaders
to talk about their industry and how to
prepare for entering the workforce. The
day will also include a Job Fair in the
Gold Gym where regional employers
will promote summer employment,
internships, or provide an introduction to
what their field is all about.

presence on April 11 to connect with

participate; however, advance registration
no later than Thursday, April 5 is

1:20 a.m. - A resident on West
Ridgeway Avenue, Hermiston, reported an
ex-girlfriend just broke into the room.
1:53 p.m. - An emergency caller
reported an intoxicated male at Dean’s
Pendleton Athletic, 249 S. Main St.,
Pendleton,.

4:43 a.m. - Callers reported a fight in
the parking lot of the Marina Apartments,
1600 Second St., Umatilla.
9:26 a.m. - A Milton-Freewater resident
on the 500 block of Northeast Ninth
Court reported his sliding glass door was
shattered.
11:26 a.m. - Morrow County parole and
probation officers conducted several home
visits and investigations in Irrigon until a
little after noon.

•Umatilla Tribal Police arrested Charles
Thompkins Jr., 59, of Pendleton, for
domestic abuse and contempt of court.
Saturday
•Pendleton police arrested Donald G.
Barnes, 52, of Pendleton, for driving under
the influence of intoxicants.
Sunday
•Hermiston police arrested Jonathan
Maruffo Garcia, 28, of Hermiston, for
domestic violence assault.
•Pendleton police arrested Steven
Lyle Ressler, 43, of Pendleton, for
failure to appear and possession of
methamphetamine.
•Oregon State Police arrested
Valerie Alii Akuna, 26, of Port Angeles,
Washington, for DUII (alcohol and
controlled substances) and speeding.
•The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office
cited Chantell Leone Lynn Michaels of
Irrigon for keeping a dog as a public
nuisance following a report of pit bull dogs
attacking another dog between First and
Second streets. The caller also said the
same dogs attacked his dog last month.
•Oregon State Police arrested Juan
Alberto Avila, 50, of Plymouth, Washington,
for DUII following the crash of a Toyota
Tacoma on Highway 207 near milepost 13,
Umatilla.

Open Regional seeks photo entries
East Oregonian
For more than 40 years, the
Arts Council of Pendleton has
invited artists from the region
to exhibit their artwork for the
community to enjoy.
The idea is to come together
to celebrate the act of artistic
creation and learn more
about the art-making process.
People are encouraged to
begin the process of selecting
submissions for the upcoming
Open Regional Photography
Exhibition.
Submissions for the exhibit
is open to all adult amateur and
professional artists who live in
Eastern Oregon or southeastern
Washington. In addition, there
is a Teen Category for artists
who are 13-17 years old. All
submitted work must have
been completed in the last five
years.
While a wide range of
expressive
creativity
is
supported, the Open Regional
Exhibit is designed as a
family-friendly event. Those
planning to submit entires are
asked to keep in mind that
work deemed inappropriate for
viewing by young children by
the exhibition committee may
not be included.
The drop-off date for
submissions is Saturday, May
5 between noon and 4 p.m. at
Pendleton Center for the Arts,
214 N. Main St. Arrangements
for other times may be made
by contacting arts center staff.
No shipped or mailed artwork
will be accepted. There is an
entry fee of $10 per work for
adults and $5 each for teens.
Artists may enter up to two
digital or traditional darkroom
photographs.
The sale of work is encour-
aged but not required. A 30
percent commission will be
deducted from all sales. If an
artist’s work is not for sale,
a dollar value must still be
entered on the label for insur-
ance purposes.
The show’s judge will award
up to $1,000 in prize money in
the adult and youth categories,
thanks to support from Banner
Bank of Pendleton. The $200
Jacqueline Brown People’s
Choice Award will be presented
based on votes of visitors to the
exhibit, thanks to the generosity
of the Picken/Brown family.
The judge is Michael Sell,
who has a bachelor’s degree
in studio art from Adrian
College and a mater’s degree
in photography from Kendall
College of Art and Design.
He has made presentations at
numerous conferences and his
photography has been exhib-
ited throughout the Pacific
Northwest and beyond.
The exhibit opens Thursday,
May 10 with a judge’s critique
at 5 p.m. The opening reception
follows from 5:30-7 p.m. Both
events, which are at the arts
center, are open to the public.
The exhibit runs through
Friday, June 29.

St. Patrick’s event focus
of community meeting
HEPPNER — The St. Patrick’s
Committee will hold a community
meeting Wednesday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at
the Heppner City Hall conference room
to review the events and activities of this
year and start planning for next year.
All community members that have
expressed an interest in volunteering
and helping to plan 2019 event are
encouraged to attend. Pizza and beverage
will be served. Attendees are asked to
RSVP no later that Tuesday, April 3 to
the Heppner Chamber at 541-676-5536
or heppnerchamber@centurytel.net to
accommodate food and seating.
Umatilla to hold
spring cleanup event
UMATILLA — The annual
Community Clean Up Week begins
Saturday, April 7 at 9 a.m., and residents
of Umatilla are encouraged to tidy up
their property and help neighbors with
spring outdoor cleaning.
McNary area volunteers can meet
at the Port of Umatilla offices, 500
Willamette St., and downtown and south
hill volunteers should meet at Umatilla
City Hall, 700 Sixth St. Dumpsters also
will be placed around the community free
of charge for disposal of yard waste, junk,
debris and general garbage.
All volunteers will be treated to a
barbecue lunch at noon at Village Square
Park, next to the Umatilla Public Library,
700 Sixth St. For more information, call
