Local group welcomes McLeod-Skinner HERMISTON — A meet-and-greet is planned with Jamie McLeod- Skinner, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for a chance to unseat Rep. Greg Walden in Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District. Graduating from high school in southern Oregon, McLeod-Skinner calls herself a “rural Democrat.” She is a former city manager for Phoenix, Oregon, and now lives near Terrebonne, a small unincorporated community approximately 25 miles north of Bend. Some important issues of McLeod- Skinner’s include renewable energy jobs, greater access to affordable health care and protecting our water and air through sustainable use of our natural resources. The public can meet McLeod- Skinner Thursday from 12:30-2 p.m. at Agape House, 500 Harper Road, Hermiston. There is no admission charge. For more information about the gathering, contact Vickie Read at vickie_read@hotmail.com or 541-278- 1385 with Jamie McLeod-Skinner for Oregon. For more about the candidate, visit www.jamiefororegon.com. Air museum soars with annual meeting PENDLETON — People interested in aviation, history and the military are encouraged to attend the Pendleton Air Museum annual membership meeting. Pendleton residents Doris Grover and Bob Stangier, who are both included in “WWII in a Wild West Town,” will share about Pendleton Air Field and their part in Pendleton’s history. The DVD is a documentary based on interviews of veterans and civilians who worked and trained at the air field during the World War II era. The meeting is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Doolittle Room at the Eastern Oregon Regional Airport, Pendleton. Refreshments and snacks will be provided and a no-host dinner is available from Elvis’s Bar & Grill. The air museum’s mission is to preserve Pendleton’s aviation and military history, including its impact during WW II. In September 2017, the group opened a physical museum in downtown Pendleton at 21 S.W. Emigrant Ave. For more about the air museum, contact Becky J Dunlap at pendletonairmuseum@gmail. com, 541-278-0141 or visit www. pendletonairmuseum.org. Two-day event celebrates military women BOARDMAN — As part of “Women’s History Month,” the SAGE Center is hosting “She Also Served.” An Eastern Oregon celebration of women in military service, the two-day event includes “We are NOT Invisible,” an exhibition featuring 20 portraits of Oregon women military veterans. The event is Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 101 Olson Road, Boardman. Admission is free. Elizabeth Estabrooks, Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs womens veterans coordinator, is the guest speaker during a Friday reception at 4:30 p.m. A buffet meal is available from 5:30-6:30 p.m. (RSVP at www. eventbrite.com). Estabrooks, along with Felita Singleton, Portland State University Veterans Resource Center Director, commissioned the “Invisible” project after hearing concerns from female veterans. The event also includes a public screening of “Lioness” Saturday at 11 a.m. The film tells the story of a group of female Army support soldiers who were part of the first program in American history to send women into direct ground combat. A discussion will follow the viewing. For more information, contact the Morrow County Veterans Office at mcvets@co.morrow.or.us, 541-922- 6420 or visit www.co.morrow.or.us/ veteransservices.
