RECORDS Thursday, March 8, 2018 East Oregonian PUBLIC SAFETY LOG TUESDAY 5:44 a.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a vehicle break-in on West Sunland Avenue. 7:25 a.m. - A resident of Country Garden Estates, 81435 Country Garden Road, Irrigon, reported nine horses were on her property, and she wasn’t sure who they belonged to. The owner was contacted and returned the horses to his property. 7:44 a.m. - A woman filed a theft report with the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office on behalf of her mentally disabled brother, who lives on Southeast Court Street, Heppner. 8:19 a.m. - A vehicle was damaged by crossing arms at the railroad crossing at Southwest Frazer Avenue and Ninth Street, Pendleton. 9:21 a.m. - An employee of AgriNorthwest reported his company vehicle was stolen sometime since Saturday evening from the vicinity of the radio towers at Paterson Ferry Road and Frontage Lane, Boardman. 10:14 a.m. - A member of the board of directors for the Hermiston warming station alleged that other board members are stealing items from the warming station, including hygiene items. Hermiston police took a report. 11:11 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office was called to Kinkade Road Southwest, Boardman, after a report of a juvenile male with a knife acting in a threatening manner. 11:19 a.m. - Hermiston police received a report of money taken from a woman’s account via the ATM at One Stop Mart, 1295 N.W. 11th St. 1:42 p.m. - Residents of North Ott Road, Hermiston, reported a theft. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Department took a report. 3:08 p.m. - Umatilla police were called to a reported fight between two men at Tyler Avenue and Powerline Road, but were unable to find the combatants. 4:04 p.m. - A resident of the first block of Ireland Drive, Milton-Freewater, reported holes in a window and the siding of his residence. 4:36 p.m. - A backpack, laptop and school books were reported stolen from the 1000 block of Northeast Third Avenue, Milton-Freewater. 4:37 p.m. - A second car prowl was reported to Hermiston police, this one at a residence at Stage Gulch and Kilgore roads, Pendleton. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •A 44-year-old Heppner man was cited following a crash on Highway 395 north of Hermiston. Erik Wenberg pulled out from a side street into the path of Lindsey Cabral, 22, of Hermiston, causing a crash that damaged both vehicles, sent both drivers and a passenger in Wenberg’s vehicle to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston and closed all five lanes of traffic for about an hour. William ‘Bill’ Zyph Sr. Pendleton November 5, 1949 - March 6, 2018 William (Bill) Zyph Sr. of Pendleton passed away March 6, 2018, at his home. He was born November 5, 1949, in Sunny- side, Wash., to Ona and Ester Zyph. He was raised in Granger, Wash. In 1969, he entered the armed forces. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, then spent six months in Korea before returning home to his family. He spent several years working for the U & I sugar plant in Toppenish, Wash. He moved Zyph with his family to Pendleton in 1976. He worked at Harris Pine Mills and later went to work for the Pendleton School District and retired there. In 1996, he was elected Pendleton’s man of the year. He was president of Babe Ruth and Main Street Cowboys. For 40 years, he officiated football and basketball with the Blue Mountain Officials Association. He was a member of the Main Street Cowboys and volunteered during Round-Up and also bartended for various dinners. Bill enjoyed helping others and teaching and coaching kids the game of basketball plus coaching his son’s Little League and Babe Ruth teams. He ran the concession stand for 30 years and was known as the best hamburger man around. He also enjoyed fishing. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cleo Zyph of Pendleton; son William “Bill” (Ann) Zyph Jr.; daughter Paula (Brian) Hamilton of Pendleton; three grandchildren, Jessica Grove, Tyler Zyph and Caitlin Zyph; two great-grand- children, Cabela Stevens and Brantley Grove; sisters Margaret Belton of Granger, Wash., and Shirley Newman of Mt. She passed on March 4, 2018, in Richland, Wash. She attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M. Alameda was a very talented artist. In her spare time she enjoyed designing custom cakes, in which she would often incorporate tribal designs, for family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and you would often see her at Nixyaawii Community School basket- ball games or her grand- children’s sporting events. She also enjoyed attending powwows throughout the years and made many friends across the country. She was an outstanding grandmother and an activist.
