DEATH NOTICES
TUESDAY
7:27 a.m. - Hermiston police took a report of a vehicle theft
on West Linda Avenue.
8:55 a.m. - A woman at the Pilot Travel Center, 2115 S.
Highway 395, Stanfield, reported a male tried to get into her
vehicle. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall, had a short white
beard, gray hair and wore jeans and a Carhart jacket. She also
said he was wandering around the travel center.
9:36 a.m. - Kayla Westenskow, 30, of Milton-Freewater,
suffered minor injuries when she crashed her vehicle into the
rear of a vehicle on Highway 11 near Appleton Road, Milton-
Freewater. Oregon State Police reported Providence St. Mary
Medical Center, Walla Walla, treated and released Westenskow.
The other driver, Michal Geier, 48, of Pendleton, was uninjured.
9:40 a.m. - A woman told Pendleton police a man she knows
is harassing her via email, calls and on social media.
9:57 a.m. - Umatilla police took a report from the Umatilla
School District, 1001 Sixth St., concerning a co-worker making
threats.
3:50 p.m. - Pendleton police took a report for the theft of a
gun from the 900 block of Northwest Carden Avenue.
3:53 p.m. - A caller reported the theft of his bicycle from the
Great Pacific Wine & Coffee Co., 403 S. Main St. Pendleton.
3:55 p.m. - A caller told Pendleton police a male was riding a
bicycle outside Walgreens, 144 S.W. 20th St., while holding onto
a better looking bike. The caller suggested the other bike could
be stolen.
6:35 p.m. - Staff at the Knights Inn, 310 S.E. Dorion Ave.,
Pendleton, told police an intoxicated man came in and yelled
at the manager and said he would be back, the walked east on
Dorion Avenue.
9:55 p.m. - A caller reported the theft of a vehicle at Smith’s
Frozen Foods, 101 E. Depot St., Weston.
10:40 p.m. - A man called 911 and reported he was in a field
at Goad Road outside Pendleton and felt like he was “being
hunted.” He would not identify himself but told dispatch who his
mother was.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•Oregon State Police around 6:20 p.m. received reports of
a possible intoxicated driver in a white pickup heading west on
Interstate 84 near milepost 187. Trooper Mark Amos spoke to
witnesses while getting his police car into position to intercept
the pickup. The witnesses said the vehicle varied in speed from
55 to 70 mph and swerved all over the road.
The trooper spotted the Toyota Tacoma pickup near the Pilot
Travel Center, Stanfield, and saw it swerve and go slower than
the 70 mph speed limit, according to state police.
Amos contacted the driver, Kaley Marie Lankford, 30, of
Hermiston. She showed multiple signs of impairment, state
police reported, and could not finished a sobriety test. State
police also reported her blood-alcohol content was .26 percent,
more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent.
The trooper arrested Lankford for driving under the influence
of intoxicants reckless driving, reckless endangering, posses-
sion of hydrocodone and possession of oxycodone (less than
40 pills).
Home builders association
offers scholarships
HERMISTON — The Northeast Oregon Home
Builders Association is offering a pair of $1,500
scholarships to help educate and train individuals in a
profession related to the building industry.
The scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis
of his/her potential to succeed.
Applicants must currently be a high school senior
or enrolled as a college student or in a qualified
apprenticeship program. The students must be a
resident of Umatilla, Morrow, Union, Baker or Wallowa
county and have an interest in pursuing a career in the
construction profession.
