CONGLETON — DUBBS
J
oe and I met through a mutual friend, who forced me to a
lunch with an old friend of hers. I was her ride so I kind
of had no choice. And for me, it was love at first sight.
We hung out the following Saturday and went on our first
official date that Valentines Day. We dated for six months
until he decided to serve a mission for our church. During the
two-year period apart, we decided that if we were meant to
be, then it would be. I dated other people and he focused on
his work for the most part.
With six weeks left of his two-year mission, we came
back into each others’ lives. We have been back together
since the day he got home. We were engaged three weeks
later. He asked me by taking me to revisit all the important
spots to us when we dated, ending at our favorite restaurant.
We had a whole wedding planned. We were mainly wait-
ing for his mom to be there, when we heard she wouldn’t be
able to make it. At 10:34 p.m. we called our closest friends
over and we got married in our kitchen. Still to this day, it
was the best decision I have ever made. Two weeks after the
wedding I found out I was expecting, we now have a 1-year-
old little boy and can’t wait to see what is next for our family.

ere is how Derek and I met: I had just graduated high
school and was enjoying summer. My girlfriends and I
went to a church activity, and as we were all sitting around
the fire, Derek walked up and sat down beside me! He started
talking to me, asking things like where I’m from, about my
family, etc. Then he asked me about what schools I’ve attended
(I think he meant colleges but since I was just out of high school,
that’s how I responded). He sounded a little worried as he asked,
“just how old are you?” I told him I was 18. He didn’t say a single
word, just got up and walked away. I looked at my girlfriend who
was conversing with us and said, “what a jerk!” The next day
I saw him again at church and found out that he was 25. He
was looking for a serious relationship – not for someone to just
have fun with. After seeing him at church another time, I guess
my charm got to him because we were casually dating for three
months then made it official. Two years later we were married.
