Hermiston police make five arrests in busy afternoon East Oregonian HERMISTON — A dispute that escalated into a drawn firearm, a chain- wielding man at Wal-Mart and a reported brawl near Eastside Market kept Hermiston police busy Thursday afternoon. “They come in threes,” said Capt. Scott Clark, though officers were unable to find anyone fighting after the last call. The action began at 2:21 p.m. when officers were called by Bradley Betten- court who said Tristan Fiscus, 19, had pointed a gun at him at 1140 W. Poplar Place. Bettencourt said he had gone to the house of ex-girlfriend Rebecca Mayes, 26, to retrieve some stolen property and was confronted by Fiscus, Timothy Kelly, 26, and Abigail Johnson, 22. Kelly got a gun from a car, Bettencourt said, and as he was leaving Fiscus pointed the weapon at him. Bettencourt drove to the nearby 11th Street Market to report the incident and wait for officers. After officers arrived, Fiscus and Johnson drove up and were detained. By about 3:30 p.m. and after a short investigation, Fiscus, Kelly, Johnson and Mayes were all in handcuffs on the following charges: Fiscus, menacing, disorderly conduct and unlawful possession of a firearm; Kelly, menacing and disorderly conduct; Johnson, unlawful posses- sion of a firearm; and Mayes, probation violation. Minutes after officers wrapped up, they were called to Wal-Mart, 1350 N. First Street, by store management for a man swinging a chain. Police found Hector Martinez, 62, who saw a man he knew — possibly a relative — and confronted him with a chain he had brought into the store. Officers arrested Martinez for disorderly conduct. While they were responding, dispatch received a call about a fight at Eastside Market, and Capt. Scott said there were enough officers to respond but they didn’t find anyone.
