WRESTLING:
Continued from 1B
4A state tournament next weekend.
Spencer Wells polished off his
third consecutive district title at 220
pounds as he defeated Spencer Gerts
of La Grande by a 5-2 decision. And
at 195 pounds, Joshua Torres secured
his second consecutive district title
with a 1-0 decision over Baker’s G’ovi
Quezada. The wins for both Wells and
Torres mark the fourth straight trip to
the state tournament for both.
Elsewhere, freshman Kiez White
(106) kept his stellar debut season
going with a 10-3 decision over Ontar-
io’s Froylan Santiago for the district
title, and Zach Crisman pinned Baker’s
Jorge Duran in 59 seconds to capture
his first title.
Also qualifying to state for the
Pioneers were Patton Wright (3rd
place, 170), Brandyn Chaney (2nd,
182) and Cruz Garcia (3rd, 285). As
a team, Mac-Hi finished in third place
with 175 points, behind first-place La
Grande (331) and Baker (281).
