UPCOMING SERVICES
Duane Lee Ward, age
53, was born November
16, 1964, in Rupert, Idaho.
He was the son of Michael
D. (deceased) and Lorene
(Price) Ward. He passed
away December 31, 2017,
at the home in Walla Walla
from many physical prob-
lems.
Duane moved
to Pocatello, Idaho,
with his parents at
age 2, living there
1966 -1969. His
dad was transferred
to Tempe, Arizona,
with his job at
Continental Can
Company.
We
lived there until
1975 when he Ward
again transferred
to Moses Lake,
Washington. In 1980 we
moved
to
Vancouver,
Washington, again with
CCC, his dad working in the
Portland plant. In June 1982,
we made the final move to
Walla Walla, Washington.
As a young boy, Duane
learned to water ski as we
had a boat from the time he
was a baby. It was a favorite
family sport for many years.
Also Duane loved fishing
and he had such a bond
with his dad, as both loved
fishing. Duane could catch
a fish out of mud hole, as
the saying goes! Duane
learned to play the guitar at
a young age, while living in
Moses Lake. It was a great
enjoyment to him and he did
play in band later in Walla
Walla. One of the joys was
our family camping trips.
He loved the Snake River
and later Wallowa Lake.
He lived in Waitsburg,
Washington, a few years
and also in Weston, Oregon,
before coming back to
Walla Walla in the summer
of 2013 to live the final
years of his life. He enjoyed
playing computer games
on his tablets, and was a
member of a club group
who were Christians on his
team and many would pray
for him and his needs and he
did the same for them. This
really helped to sustain him
through his pain and all the
physical problems that was
destroying his body.
Duane expressed to me,
his mom, how he believed
John 3:16 and how he loved
his Lord Jesus Christ. His
favorite bible chapter was
1st Corinthians 13, the
LOVE Chapter of the bible.
He felt LOVE was greatest
gift of all.
Duane attended school
in all the towns he lived in,
graduating
from
Wa-Hi in 1983.
Duane worked at
the City Zoo Pet
Store for many
years and later
worked at Smith’s
Frozen Foods for
many years, taking
and finishing a
two-year electrical
course, which he
was proud of. Sad
to say, he could not
pursue his dream
job, as he begin to have
severe hip problems and
health problems. He came
back to Walla Walla, living
here with his mom and
brother Dennis Ward.
Duane is survived by his
daughters, Denise Ward and
Michelle Ward, plus their
sisters Sharon Sumerlin
and Ann Crownover, to
whom he became dad also.
His companion, Diane
Crownover,
for
many
years was the mother of
the girls. They later parted
company. Also surviving is
his mother, Lorene Ward,
brother Dennis Ward and
a sister, Laura Lundstrom
from Paola, Kansas. His
grandchildren are Shalynn
Phelps, Lillie Patterson,
Matthew, Michael and
Renee LittleWing Ward,
Justin and Cody Sumerlin,
Alex and Owen Phelps, Evie
Jantz and Urik Cernazanu.
He has many aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and cousins
too many to name.
He was proceeded in
death by his beloved dad,
Mike Ward, grandparents
plus other relatives and
friends.
Duane was an outgoing
person, never meeting a
stranger. He had many
friends along his journey in
life. He will be missed so
much.
