Coho salmon smolts shoot out of a hose into the Lostine River on Thursday,
March 9 outside of Wallowa. The Nez Perce tribe is reintroducing the fish to the
Lostine River after a 31-year absence of a coho salmon run.

A blood-red sun dips below a set of utility wires Wednesday, Aug. 2 on a ridge
west of Pendleton. The sun appeared red due to heavy smoke from wildfires
that has blown into the Columbia Basin.
