PUBLIC SAFETY LOG
1:51 a.m. - An Irrigon man reported domestic violence
between himself and his girlfriend and asked for a Morrow
County sheriff’s deputy to respond.
4:13 a.m. - A man in his early 40s fell on West Willow Street,
Heppner, and suffered a broken ankle and possibly a fracture
in his lower leg. An ambulance took him to Pioneer Memorial
Hospital, Heppner.
10:37 a.m. - Phony money popped up in Hermiston.
A manager of a Hermiston business reported receiving a
fake $50 bill. And police received a report at 9:30 p.m. of a fake
$20 bill.
12:52 p.m. - The Pendleton Fire Department responded to
a fire at a home at 714 S.E. Eighth St. Firefighters arrived to a
smoke-filled home and attacked a fire in the crawl space of the
structure.
The preliminary cause of the fire was heat lamps in conjunc-
tion with extension cords to keep pipes from freezing. However,
the department said, the fire remains under investigation.
2:16 p.m. - Pendleton fire responded to an alarm at Hampton
Inn, 101 S.W. Nye Ave. Crews found water flowing from a
broken sprinkler pipe and shut down the sprinkler and alarm
systems. Firefighters also diverted the water flow out the door to
help limit damage.
3:14 p.m. - Concern for animals in a pasture on Olson Road,
Boardman, prompted a caller to the Morrow County Sheriff’s
Office. A deputy responded and took a report.
3:32 p.m. - Another package thief made off with the goods
from a site on Northwest Washington Avenue, Irrigon. The
property owner reported the crime, and the Morrow County
Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation.
3:41 p.m. - Pendleton police warned a man about bothering
a local family.
The father told police a man from Portland came to the
house back in May and said he had a vision about the family’s
daughter. The man did not try contacting the daughter or the
family again until Christmas day, when he sent a strange email.
Pendleton police contacted the man and warned him for
telephonic harassment and asked him not to have any contact in
anyway with any member of the local family.
3:44 p.m. - Snowmobile riders called 911 and reported two of
their machines were stuck on the trail going to Jubilee Lake near
the Tollgate warming shed.
6:13 p.m. - Umatilla police received a 911 call from the
Umatilla Port of Entry about a suspicious female. Police took a
report.
6:41 p.m. - Hermiston police responded to the 900 block of
South First Street for the assault of a 6-year-old boy. The mother
said her son was in the bathroom and the toilet overflowed, and
a man grabbed her son by the face, put his face against the wall
and caused his lip to bleed.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•Hermiston police arrested Russell Scott Greene Jr., 36,
of Hermiston, for second-degree theft, credit card fraud and
identity theft.
•Stanfield police arrested Jason Michael Francisco Garza,
27, of 74655 Gravel Pit Lane, Irrigon, on multiple warrants for
failure to appear, violating parole and on new charges of felony
attempt to flee, second-degree criminal mischief and forging or
altering a vehicle title or registration.
•Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dillan Drake
Massey, 27, of Hermiston, for first-degree theft, unauthorized
entry into a motor vehicle, credit card fraud, second-degree
forgery and second-degree theft.

Dalton Daniel McKay,
aka “Grey Wolf,” age 24,
passed away on Tuesday,
Dec. 26, 2017, at Kadlec
hospital
in
Richland,
Washington.
He
was surrounded by
family and friends.
The
dressing
ceremony will be
on Thursday, Dec.
28 at 2 p.m. at
Pioneer Chapel in
Pendleton, Oregon,
following
with
Washat service at
7 p.m. at Mission
Longhouse.
A McKay
Catholic Mass and
burial will be held at St.
Andrews Church at 9 a.m.
on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017.
Dalton was born in Pend-
leton, Oregon, November
27, 1993. He was the son
of Misty “Hummingbird”
Sheoships and Damon
McKay. He was an enrolled
member of the Confederated
Tribes of the Umatilla
Indian Reservation. He was
raised in Thornhollow on
the Umatilla reservation.
Dalton attended school in
Athena and Weston. Dalton
also went to Wolf Creek Job
Corps in Roseburg, Oregon,
where he specialized in fire-
fighting and forestry. Dalton
loved to hunt big game, fish,
and roam the mountains and
rivers.
Dalton was a
very
outgoing and mischievous
person and loved to tease
and joke around, you knew
he was up to no good when
you see that big grin come
out and that light in his eyes.
Dalton was all about family
and his friends became
family for him. Dalton could
make new friends, striking
up conversation with a
perfect stranger like he knew
them for years.
He loved to watch boxing,
UFC, baseball, and football
and he could quote stats and
all things sports related. His
favorite
football
team was the New
England Patriots.
If anyone knew
Dalton his favorite
go-to meal was a
cup of steaming hot
Raman Noodles,
which he perfected.
Dalton will be
missed by all who
knew him; he gave
the gift of laughter,
a shoulder to lean
on and his smile.
He is survived by his
father, Damon McKay of
Mission;
grandparents,
Nora and Leon Sheoships
of Thornhollow, David and
Becky McKay; his brothers,
Wauker
and
Jonathan
Tate, Kyle McKay; aunts,
Karen Lee of Whiteriver,
Arizona, Cecelia Husted

Geneva Eddings was
born Aug. 31, 1908 in
Troy, Idaho, the daughter of
William and Alice (Miller)
Perkins. She passed away in
Hermiston on Dec.
26, 2017, at the age
of 109.
Geneva
lived
near Colfax, Wash-
ington, as a child
where she attended
school. She married
Benjamin
Ralph
Eddings in Tacoma,
Washington,
on
July 18, 1928. The
couple lived in Eddings
the Tacoma area
until the late-1940s where
she worked as a welder in
the Navy shipyards during
World War II. After the war,
they moved to New Orleans
where they resided until the
mid-1960s. They moved
back to Snoqualmie, Wash-
ington, where she resided
until moving to Phoenix,
Arizona, with her daughter
in 2006. She moved to
Hermiston in spring 2017.
Geneva was an expert
seamstress and a crafted
sweater maker. She loved
her time with her family
especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband,
Ben, in 1984; a
brother, William,
and
grandsons,
Calvin Brett Jones
and Robert Reed
Miller.
She is survived
by her children; son,
Ralph H. Eddings;
daughters, Verlie
Miller and Muriel
Eddings;
seven
grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandson.
A small family gathering
was held locally. Interment
will be in the Fall City
Cemetery in Fall City, Wash-
ington.

Rita Quezada Resendez, 97, of Milton-Freewater died
Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at her home. She was born Nov.
15, 1920. Arrangements are with Munselle-Rhodes Funeral
Home in Milton-Freewater.

Max Duane Renick,
age 81, was called home
early Christmas morning
after a courageous battle
with
Hodgkin
Lymphoma.
He
was born Jan. 13,
1936, in La Grande,
Oregon, the only
child to Lowell
“Sam” Renick and
Irma Samuelson.
Max spent his
early
childhood
years in La Grande
where he attended
grade school and
developed his love
for the trumpet after
teaching
himself
to play a toy
bugle. His family Renick
later moved to
Umatilla, Oregon
where he graduated from
Umatilla High School in
1955; lettering in basketball,
baseball and football. He
belonged to several clubs
and was voted outstanding
member in band.
He was drafted into the
U.S. Army in 1958 and
attended basic training in
Fort Hood, Texas. In 1959,
he sailed out of New York
harbor to Bremerhaven,
Germany, on the USNS
Gen. Simon B Buckner and
was stationed in Friedberg
where he rented his first VW
Bug traveling the sights of
Europe; which began his
lifelong passion for the VW
Beetle.
Max married Shirley
Voorhees in 1961 with whom
he had three “favorite”
daughters. They resided in
Umatilla, Pendleton and
College Place, Washington.
The twinkle in his eyes
seemed to reflect the light he
saw in his girls.
He married Fran Henry
Wolchik in 1980. They
shared many years together
in Pendleton, Oregon.
In 2010, Max married his
present wife, Loa Heideman.
Making their home in Irrigon,
Oregon, until the time of his
death.
Max lived a life of faith
and trusted always in the
Lord’s will. Throughout his
life he was an active member
in his community. A member
of the Columbia View
Community Church, Herm-
iston Car Club, Umatilla
Museum, Umatilla Alumni
Association and past pres-
ident of the Irrigon Moose
Lodge.
He enjoyed playing his
trumpet for family and friends
at birthdays, local parades
and other small events. He
loved the Columbia River
and the history of the area.

rain. He enjoyed
weekend trail rides
on his motorcycle
with his friends and
shared his love of
motorcycles with
his daughters as
they often tagged
along to weekend
races. He was a
competitive motor-
cycle
enthusiast,
a member of the
Blue
Mountain
Motorcycle Club,
the Flag Man at the Triangle
Speedway and the best left-
handed pool player around.
Max had a zest and joy for
life, an extraordinary sense of
humor and was well known
by his friends for his ornery
shenanigans. A note from an
old friend said, “Max was a
real joker. Had many talents
and could play that trumpet
like Harry James. He could
make you laugh until you felt
like throwing up and would
support you through the
worst of times.”
Preceded in death by
his parents and his beloved
dogs, Muffy and Benjamin.
Max is survived by his wife,
Loa Heideman Renick;
his
daughters,
Cheryl
Stensrud (Chris), Carie
Brosnan (Damon) and
Jana Smith (Randy); step-
daughter, Cynda Ackerman
(Brandon); is grandchil-
dren, Jennifer, Bree Ann,
Michael, Hailey, Carson,
Conor, Shelbi, Brianne,
Tanner and Dominick; six
great-grandchildren
and
he was proud to share his
birthday with his youngest
great-granddaughter.
A graveside service with
military honors will be held
on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017,
at 11 a.m. at Sunset Hills
Cemetery, Umatilla, Oregon.
A celebration of life service
will follow at 1 p.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at
Columbia View Community
Church, 1230 E. Highway
