Oregon man arraigned in wife’s shooting death PORTLAND (AP) — An Oregon man accused of fatally shooting his wife has been indicted on a murder charge. The previously secret indictment was announced Thursday, more than six weeks after Clayton Stanfill, 53, of Turner walked into his local fire department to receive treatment for what authorities say was a self-in- flicted gunshot wound. Stanfill said he attempted to kill himself — with a bullet to the face — because he was distraught that his wife had just committed suicide, Jeff Olson, a Marion County probation deputy, wrote in court papers. Deputies went to Stanfill’s home and found the body of 52-year-old Judy Stanfill. Authorities have not said what evidence leads them believe Stanfill killed his wife. He pleaded guilty in a domestic violence case involving his wife last year and was on probation. A judge last December approved an agreement allowing the couple to renew contact. Judy Stanfill, who worked at Marion County Circuit Court, signed the document in which she agreed to not hold the state, sheriff’s office or district attorney liable for any resulting injury or property damage. Stanfill’s history of domestic violence also includes a 2002 arrest for menacing and endangering the welfare of a minor. As East Oregonian part of that plea agreement, he agreed to abstain from alcohol and forfeit a baseball bat and shotgun. Stanfill was arraigned Thursday and assigned a court-appointed attorney, John Rich. He is being held without bail. Rich said in an email Friday he hopes to have the police reports by sometime next week. •Nicolas Landeros Garza, 19, Irrigon, pleaded guilty to Possession of Meth- amphetamine: sentenced to 2 years probation, 90 sanction units, 30 maxi- mum jail units, $200 fine, 6 months driver’s license suspension and restitution to be determined; pleaded guilty to Criminal Mischief II: sentenced to 10 days jail and $100 fine (discharged); pleaded guilty to Failure to Appear I: sentenced to 2 years probation, 120 sanc- tion units, 60 maximum jail units, $500 fine and $2,500 fine-suspended, plus attor- ney fees. •Glenda Loretta Fisher, 39, Pendleton, pleaded guilty to Delivery of Metham- phetamine: sentenced to 3 years probation, 120 sanc- tion units, 60 maximum jail units, 80 hours community service and 6 months driv- er’s license suspension. •Victor Flores Martinez, 39, Stanfield, pleaded guilty to Fleeing or Attempt to Elude Police Officer: sentenced to 2 years probation, 180 sanc- tion units, 90 maximum jail units, $500 fine, $4,500 fine-suspended and 1 year driver’s license suspension; pleaded guilty to Recklessly Endangering Another Per- son: sentenced to 20 days jail, 160 days jail-suspend- ed, 3 years probation, $100 fine and 90 days driver’s license suspension, court costs and fees. plus •George Luis Angel, 24, Hermiston, pleaded guilty to Possession of Metham- phetamine: sentenced to 2 years probation, 90 sanc- tion units, 30 maximum jail units, 80 hours com- munity service, $200 fine and 6 months driver’s li- cense suspension; pleaded guilty to DUII: sentenced to 180 days jail-suspended, 2 years probation, 80 hours community service, $1,000 fine, $1,005 fine-suspended and 1 year driver’s license suspension, plus restitution to be determined; pleaded guilty to Reckless Driving: sentenced to 90 days driv- er’s license suspension.
