Keith Elliot Barton,
former resident of Umatilla,
Oregon, slipped away
from us on Wednesday,
November 8, 2017,
at a Boise, Idaho
hospital. Keith was
born November 3,
1944, in Enterprise,
Oregon, to Ruth
and Greg Barton.
Keith’s
early
years
were
spent in Joseph,
Oregon, where he
attended school,
and loved the
wonderful outdoor
setting provided
for fishing and
hunting. At the age
of 17 he joined the Barton
Army and served
in Germany.
The family eventually
moved to Umatilla, Oregon.
After Keith’s honorable
discharge from the Army
he lived and worked in
the Umatilla area and also
attended Blue Mountain
Community College.
Keith married Gerry
Migles and from the
marriage
a
beautiful
daughter, Toni, was born.
Keith was a handyman
who had a variety of jobs
including
construction,
maintaining bowling alleys,
and working for the city of
Umatilla. The last several
years Keith resided in Cald-
well and Boise,
Idaho, to be close
to family.
His
parents,
Ruth and Greg,
preceded Keith in
death. He leaves
a daughter Toni,
sisters
Marilee
Moores,
Wendy
Tunison
(Mike)
and Gwen Nuss-
bacher
(Walt),
and
brothers
Scott (Janis), Tim
(Glenda),
and
Randy Barton.
Keith will be
cremated
with
a private burial
at the veterans cemetery
in Boise, Idaho. A public
celebration of Keith’s life
will be announced later in
the spring.
The family is grateful
for the many friends and
employees Keith met and
laughed with at Apex
Assisted Living Center.
The family also wants to
thank St. Alphonsus for
the professional care he
received from the doctors
and staff.
John R. Biamont
Pendleton

John Biamont, who
managed state agency
offices in several towns
over 37
years, died
recently at age 74 in Pend-
leton, his hometown.
With steadfast support
from his wife Sharon,
Biamont managed
offices
from
Astoria to Ontario
for such agencies
as
Adult
and
Family Services,
child
welfare,
Vo c a t i o n a l
Rehabilitation,
and seniors with
disabilities.
He
was educated at
the
University
of Oregon in the
1960s and earned
a master’s degree
while doing social
work in Texas. He
retired from the
field in 2002.
A significant
part of John
Biamont’s young
life was treatment Biamont
at the Shriners
Hospital for Crippled
Children in Portland. He
said years later that advice
from his mother was key in
helping him cope with the
challenges of growing into
manhood. When some of
his classmates bullied the
kid with short arms, John’s
mother reportedly said,
“No one cares, John, and
if you can’t deal with this,
you are going to feel sorry
for yourself for the rest of
your life.” John said he
learned to use his legs and
feet to defend himself.
But despite that, Biamont
remembers his Pendleton
boyhood affection-
ately — riding in
the back of a wheat
truck, eating fresh
peach pancakes,
deer
hunting,
learning to drink
coffee
black.
He and his male
relatives
loved
cars. John said his
favorite was a ’51
Mercury coupe,
which his dad
souped up.

him through years
of dealing with
heart
problems
and cancer.

Gilleese scholarships
HERMISTON — Altrusa
International of Hermiston
recently announced winner of
its Linda Gilleese Memorial
Scholarship.
The recipients and their majors
include Jackie Barlow (health),
Debbie Smith (elementary
education) and Stephanie Loving
(integrated studies). All three
are students at Eastern Oregon
University. The scholarships
are given in memory of Linda
Gilleese, a former Altrusan and
Hermiston community member
who was a strong advocate for
education.
