Fall family event reins in fun Lions Club continue tree project
Despite drizzling rain,
forcing a move to indoors,
the Athena Elementary
Partners In Education
group deemed the Fall
Family Fun Night a success.
With more than 200
people in attendance and 50
volunteers, the Oct. 12 event
raised $1,000 for the family
of Quincy Stanford. The
Athena first grader is battling
leukemia.
In
addition,
Athena PIE president Jane
Waldher said the event
provided a fun opportunity
for parents, teachers and
community members to
connect.
The evening offered
fun games centered around
Science, Technology, Engi-
neering and Math (STEM).
Among the favorite activities
were an egg drop, a slime-
making station and a candy
catapult.
After watching 5-year-old
Grant Waldher, Athena
School District Superin-
tendent Laure Quaresma
joined in on the fun. She

assisted with beautification
efforts with a tree-planting
project.
The local service club
planted six trees Oct. 10
along Southwest Frazer
Avenue near the Pendleton
Chamber of Commerce and
the Lions Flagpole Park. The
effort is the continuation of
the Lions Legacy Project
of tree planting, said John
Taylor of the local Lions
Club. Previously, the Lions
donated trees to Pioneer Park
and Grecian Heights Park.
