quarter, but then the Buckaroos
fi nally reached the end zone in
the second quarter to take a 7-6
lead into halftime. Pendleton
then rolled in the second half,
outscoring the Eagles (2-4,
1-4) 25-0 to fi nish the game.
“We came out a little fl at,”
Pendleton coach Erik Davis
said. “We moved the ball okay,
but penalties stalled us out and
kept our momentum at bay.
We scored the touchdown in
the second quarter and it was a
bit of a momentum shift for us.
“We came out in the second
half and the defense bowed
their necks a bit and we took it
to them after that.”
With running back Shawn
Yeager out for the season with
an injury, Aiden Patterson
stepped into the starting role
and had a monster game
running for 160 yards on 14
carries with a touchdown and
added one receiving touch-
downs as well. Alex Rendon
added 18 yards on six carries
with a score as well.
Quarterback Nick Bower
threw for 153 yards and two
touchdowns on 16-of-26
passing with zero intercep-
tions. Bower’s favorite target
was again Shaw Jerome who
caught fi ve passes for 69 yards
with a score.
With the win, Pendleton
keeps a hold on the fourth-
and-fi nal playoff spot in the
district with a one-game lead
on Summit with two weeks
left to play.

win fourth straight
By ALEXIS MANSANAREZ

HERMISTON — After his fi nal
homecoming game, Hermiston
senior Dayshawn Neal was at a loss
for words, reeling. First, he had to
catch his breath, and second, he was
reeling from the Bulldogs’ 35-32 win
over the Bend Lava Bears that did not
come easy.
“I’m feeling it,” said Neal, who
fi nished with 122 receiving yards and
three touchdowns. “It’s just hard to
explain.”

(5-2 overall, 4-1 Special District 1)
weren’t threatened by the Bears’
record, and came out on the hunt for
a win scoring their fi rst touchdown in
the opening drive.
Junior quarterback Andrew James
hit his favorite target of the night,
senior Dayshawn Neal, for a 90-yard
touchdown. Hermiston was up 7-0
just two minutes into the game.

Keuchel dominant as Astros win Game 1
ALCS - Game 1
Houston starter strikes out
10 in 7 shutout innings

HOUSTON — Dallas Keuchel faced
the New York Yankees in the postseason
for the second time and the Houston
Astros ace shut them down again.
Keuchel struck out 10 in seven score-
less innings to help Houston to a 2-1
victory on Friday night in the AL Cham-
pionship Series opener.
“I think it’s just pitch execution, and
it’s just been there more times than it
hasn’t against the Yankees,” Keuchel said.

He allowed four hits — all singles —
and walked one to improve to 8-2 with
a 1.09 ERA in eight starts against the
Yankees in the regular season and post-
season combined. He joined Nolan Ryan
and Mike Scott as the only Astros pitchers
to reach double digits in strikeouts in a
postseason game.

49ers release all-pro linebacker
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San
Francisco 49ers have released linebacker
NaVorro Bowman in a move that cut ties with
one of the few remaining links from the team’s
last run of success.General manager John Lynch
said he and coach Kyle Shanahan
met with Bowman on Thursday
night and it became clear that going
in different directions was the best
move for both sides. San Francisco
then released Bowman on Friday.
Bowman originally joined
the 49ers as a third-round pick in
Bowman
2010 and quickly formed one of
the league’s best linebacking duos
with Patrick Willis. The two were key to San
Francisco’s run of three straight trips to the NFC
title game and one Super Bowl appearance.
But the 49ers (0-5) are rebuilding now after
winning just seven games the past two seasons
and want to commit to younger players.
“You know, I was thinking
about maybe driving a
school bus. I thought it’d
be fun. I drive the kids to
school every morning,
and I thought it’d be fun
driving them home, too.
I think I’ll be OK. I think
they’ll be able to eat
either way.”

Syracuse upsets No. 2 Clemson
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Eric Dungey
threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns,
Cole Murphy kicked a tiebreaking fi eld goal in
the fourth quarter, and Syracuse stunned No. 2
Clemson 27-24 on Friday night to
put a damper on the Tigers’ chances
to repeat as national champions.
Clemson (6-1, 4-1 Atlantic
Coast Conference) had won 12
consecutive games on the opponent’s home
fi eld, the longest streak in Clemson history and
tied for the second longest active streak in the
nation. Clemson also had won 11 consecutive
games overall, the longest active winning streak
in the nation.
The Orange (4-3, 2-1) are 3-6 against the
previous year’s national champion, also beating
Penn State in 1987 and Michigan in 1998.
The Tigers took a big blow when quarterback
Kelly Bryant suffered a concussion in the fi nal
minute of the fi rst half.
