OBITUARIES
WEDNESDAY
Kathleen Schick
2:37 a.m. - A 9-1-1 caller reported one man was yelling at
another who was in a vehicle at Juniper Buttercreek Apartments,
990 W. Juniper Ave., Hermiston.
8:50 a.m. - A woman over-corrected and crossed the center
line, ending up with her vehicle in a ditch on Highway 730 near
Boardman. She was not injured, but law enforcement cited her
for driving while suspended.
9:04 a.m. - A resident of Northeast Third Street, Irrigon, who
heard the Morrow County Sheriff’s Offi ce had recovered some
stolen items asked if his weed cutter and gas can, which were
stolen from his property, were among the items.
10:43 a.m. - A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy contacted a
woman who was rolling around on the pavement just past the
white line on the south side of Highway 730 near the wildlife
viewing area outside Irrigon. She said she would continue
walking, and that her daughter would try to come pick her up.
1:04 p.m. - A truck driver at Lost Valley Farms, Homestead
Lane, Boardman, told the Morrow County Sheriff’s Offi ce he had
left his wallet in his truck and the manager of the farm opened
the door of the vehicle, and now money was missing from his
wallet. A sheriff’s deputy took a theft report.
1:08 p.m. - The Boardman ambulance responded to Castle
Rock Apartments, 451 Tatone St., Boardman, for a 1-year-old
boy whose fi ngers were caught in a bicycle chain and were
turning colors. Medics freed the child, who did not suffer injuries.
1:09 p.m. - Stateline Community Church, 85440 Highway 11,
Milton-Freewater, reported theft to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s
Offi ce.
2:31 p.m. - A Umatilla County sheriff’s deputy took a fraud
report from a resident of Highway 332, Milton-Freewater.
2:45 p.m. - Milton-Freewater police received a report of theft
from an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Northeast 11th
Avenue.
2:56 p.m. - Callers reported broken windows at a residence
in the 900 block of Evans Street, Milton-Freewater.
3:15 p.m. - A caller told police a man and woman were
checking all the locks on storage units at M&M Storage, 30437
Union St., Hermiston.
5:04 p.m. - A Hermiston woman told police she received
multiple calls stating federal immigration agent stopped her
nephew at the airport in Pasco, and she wanted an offi cer to
determine if this was a scam.
6:37 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Offi ce took a
report of a vehicle theft from a residence on Southshore Drive,
Umatilla.
7:48 p.m. - Two bags in a fi eld near Heppner Elementary
School, 235 E. Stansbury, Heppner, were gone when a friend
arrived to retrieve them, and when one bag was later found with
items were missing. The friend said she saw someone wearing
a hooded sweatshirt walk away with the two bags, but she
couldn’t identify the suspect.
11:42 p.m. - A resident of Southwest 11th Street, Hermiston,
reported someone has been stealing email accounts and wifi ,
and she has a video of a possible trespasser.
11:56 p.m. - Milton-Freewater police received a report of
graffi ti in the restrooms in Yantis Park.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•Pendleton police arrested Shawna Ann Long, 36, of
Pendleton, for aggravated fourth-degree assault.
•Oregon State Police arrested Refujio Cavesas Arreola, 64,
of 633 Military St., Walla Walla, for driving under the infl uence of
intoxicants.

Kathleen
was
born
December 8, 1920, in
Athena, Oregon, to Otis C.
McDowell and Mamie Sarah
Sheard McDowell. Her
father worked as a railroad
engineer, so she grew up in
Athena, La Grande, Kamela
and Portland. In 1938,
Kathleen graduated
from Grant High
School in Portland
and went on to the
University of Wash-
ington, where she
earned a Bachelor
of Science degree.
Kathleen
was
married
twice,
fi rst to Williard S.
Bross in 1947, with
whom she had one Schick
daughter. She was
married again in
1975 to James Schick.
During
World
War
II, Kathleen worked as a
secretary at McCaw General
Army Hospital in Walla
Walla, Wash. She went on
to work as a stenographer
for Lamb Weston and Whit-
worth College in Spokane.
In mid-life Kathleen pursued
business training to become a
certifi ed professional secre-
tary, and continued for many
years at St. Mary’s Hospital
in Walla Walla.
Kathleen had may joys in
life, in particular gardening
and dancing. She enjoyed
traveling and went on group
trips to China and Mexico
with friends from Walla
Walla. She was a long-time
member of Eastern
Star and the Profes-
sional Secretaries
Association.
Kathleen loved her
three grandchildren
dearly and spent lots
of time babysitting.

Elizabeth Bartleson
Youngblood and Gwynne
Bartleson Foster; her nephew
