REDMOND — The Pendleton Buckaroos survived
the cold weather in Central Oregon and picked up their
fi rst win of the season by beating
Redmond 4-1 on Thursday.
The four-goal output was more than
Pendleton (1-4) had in its previous
four games combined, which included
Pendleton
three-straight shutout losses. Lance
Wolf, Juan Ortega and Evan Evans all
scored goals for the Buckaroos, while
Jonathan Lopez picked up a goal on
a penalty kick as well. Pendleton’s
Redmond
defense allowed a measly one shot on
goal, but it was placed perfectly for
Redmond’s (0-3) lone goal over Buck-
aroo goalkeeper Andrew Wolotira.
“Overall our young team is
possessing and working the ball up the fi eld the last
couple games,” Pendleton coach Jeremy Talbot said,
“and maintaining more consistent effort to compete.”

Stanley leads at Tour Championship
ATLANTA (AP) — Kyle Stanley and Jordan
Spieth got off to strong starts in the Tour Champion-
ship with entirely different goals in mind.
Stanley ran off four straight birdies on the front
nine, one of them from 40 feet, and then added two
more late in his round on a steamy
Thursday afternoon at East Lake for a
6-under 64. In his Tour Championship
debut, he had a two-shot lead over a
group that included U.S. Open cham-
pion Brooks Koepka.
Spieth, the No. 1 seed in the FedEx
Cup, had a 67 and no one from the top
Stanley
fi ve had a lower score. That kept Spieth
on track in his bid to join Tiger Woods
as the only two-time winners of the $10 million bonus
since the FedEx Cup began in 2007.
Spieth was among fi ve players at 67 that included
two other top seeds, Justin Thomas (No. 2) and Jon
Rahm (No. 5). Dustin Johnson, the No. 3 seed had a
68 and Marc Leishman, at No. 4 opened with a 71.

Goff, Gurley help Rams hold
off 49ers for victory
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Jared Goff
threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns and
Todd Gurley ran for two TDs and
caught another to help the Los
Angeles Rams put up another
big offensive performance with a
41-39 victory over the San Fran-
cisco 49ers on Thursday night.
This win didn’t come easy
as the Rams (2-1) nearly blew a
15-point lead, giving up two late touchdowns,
fumbling a kickoff return and failing to recover
an onside kick. But Los Angeles managed to stop
a potential game-tying 2-point conversion and
then a fourth-down sack by Aaron Donald to stop
the Niners after the onside kick.
The 49ers (0-3) scored fi ve touchdowns after
failing to get any the fi rst two weeks but still
came up short in part because a missed extra point
forced them to try for 2 on their late touchdown.
