MONDAY
9:28 a.m. - A resident on Northwest Eucalyptus Drive, Hermiston,
reported the theft of his motorcycle.
9:44 a.m. - A man told Hermiston police someone entered his
unlocked shed in his back yard on Northeast North Street and stole
a box containing National Park commemorative $2 bills and money
order receipts.
10:37 a.m. - Hermiston police took a report of possible elder
abuse.
12:29 p.m. - A Pilot Rock resident told police she was the victim of
a scam and gave out her Social Security number.
2:04 p.m. - Stanfi eld police reported the Old Jesse James Tavern,
110 N. Main St., is a hazardous building and not in compliance with
codes, and the owner has been going in and out of the building.
2:25 p.m. - Another Hermiston resident told police they were a
victim of theft. The man said FedEx delivered a television to his porch
on Southwest 11th Street, but someone stole it.
6:19 p.m. - An intoxicated man was rude to customers at the
Pendleton Safeway, 203 S.W. 20th St.
6:40 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Offi ce received a 9-1-1
report that a male hit a female at a residence on North Townsend
Road, Hermiston.
7:59 p.m. - A person suffering from mental problems ran away
from St. Anthony Hospital, 2801 St. Anthony Way, Pendleton.
8:44 p.m. - Pendleton police received an emergency call about
screaming and yelling at a residence on Northwest Third Street.
8:54 p.m. - A caller reported a prowler lurking near vehicles at
Columbia Crest Apartments, 1561 Third St., Umatilla. Police but did
not fi nd a prowler.
TUESDAY
2:32 a.m. - There was a fi ght at Mosa, 140 S. Main St.,
Pendleton. This must be Round-Up week, because we usually have
to wait until the weekend for a bar fi ght.

•Umatilla tribal police arrested Robert James Van Pelt, 43, of
72490 Billy Road, Pendleton, for dangerous drugs and criminal
activity in drugs.
Tuesday
•Pendleton police cited Jason A. Stewart, 41, of Heppner, for
driving under the infl uence of intoxicants.
•Pendleton police arrested Seth Edward Lee Finch, 22, 530
N.W. 14th St., Pendleton, for third-degree assault, second-degree
disorderly conduct, interference with a peace offi cer, and resisting
arrest.

Umatilla passed away on
Saturday morning, September

Gary was born
October 19, 1942,
in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, the son
of Harold and Ireta
(Ransom) Powell.
During his child-
hood, he lived in
Boise, Idaho, Izee,
Ore., and John Day,
Ore. He graduated
from Grant County
High School.
After

school, he joined
the U.S. Navy and
served during the
Vietnam era from Powell
1961 through 1965.
He then served his electrical
apprenticeship
through
I.B.E.W. 112 and worked
throughout his career as a
journeyman electrician in
Eastern Oregon and Southeast
Washington.
Gary enjoyed fi shing and
hunting, woodworking, going
to the coast to whale watch
and watching hummingbirds.
Gary married Jackie on
December 12, 1978 in Reno,
Nev.
He was preceded
in death by his
parents and two
sisters, Gerri and
Diana.
He is survived
by his wife, Jackie;

pleaded no contest Monday to
misdemeanor harassment of a
sexual or intimate body part.
Court documents say
the teen told police she was
dancing next to her mother
at the Aug. 2 concert when a
stranger bit her. She rated the
pain as “3’’ on a 1-10 scale.
A woman working at
the concert told police that
Dauncey had been cut off
from buying alcohol. The
worker said she witnessed
the bite.
The 34-year-old man told
investigators he does not
remember the incident.
