we gather

a prayer
S
eptember 10 is upon us. I write
this several days before with
the glow of fi re above and ash
sprinkling in spirals around me. At
11 a.m. on Sunday, our friends in
Christ will gather at the water’s edge
in Boardman at the
marina to share a
common moment.
Consider this
your moment. The
moment.
We want to know
each other, know the
followers of Jesus,
Colin
here in Boardman,
Brown
by the water that
Faith
reminds us of our
baptism.
All are invited. You also. You …
especially.
We will be together this Sunday,
one church made of many churches,
one God, one son of God, one people
united in faith, hope and love. All
different, but of the same family.
Jesus Christ, our brother, came to
draw us all together under the soft
blessing of his love. Let us show our
hearts to him and pray for his guid-
ance in our lives. Let us join together
to pray for a world that is rent with
suffering. Let us pray for those whose
hearts are breaking and broken. Let
us pray for those suffering under
the affl iction of abnormal weather
events, of cities afl oat in water, of
oceans in turmoil, of howling winds
and tornadoes — of fi res tormenting
the hillsides of our gorge and trees
burning on mountainsides.
Let us pray for all of those broken
by poverty and sickness. Let us pray
for those unnoticed in sadness and
depression. Let us pray for those who
do not yet know you.
Let us receive your Holy Spirit,
Lord, let us receive and rejoice in the
Spirit of God.
Oh Jesus, like a song, let your call
be heard by all the earth.
May you who love us, please
teach us your way, show us your
way and let us walk in the way of
love. Let us follow you into your
abyss of light and unimaginable love
and proclaim the good news to all
mankind. Whatever the cost, let us
follow you.
Let us receive your word of life.
Let rise up and walk in your aston-
ishing love. Let your gaze be our gaze
as we look into each others’ eyes.
Joy, Peace and Love abounding.
All the days of your life, let us follow
you, Lord.
Show us the way!

Wrangling Round-Up worship
Two Christian
church services
planned during
rodeo week

A pair of faith-based events
during Pendleton Round-Up will
feature a trio of accomplished
rodeo participants.
Texas cowboy Corey Ross will
present the message during the
Round-Up Sunday Community
Worship Celebration, and Kenne-
wick veterinarian Dick Schoen-
berg will share during Tuesday’s
Cowboy Church Service.
Coordinated by the Pendleton
Ministerial
Fellowship,
the
community worship service is
Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Roy
Raley Park, 1205 S.W. Court Ave.,
Pendleton. A free barbecue will be
served after the worship service.
Those attending are encouraged to
bring a blanket or chair.
Fresh off a win at the Ellensburg
Rodeo, Ross, a steer roper, hails
from Liberty Hills, Texas. He’s the
founder of the Cowboy Ministries
Outreach Center. He’s known
throughout the professional rodeo
circuit, both as a cowboy preacher
and as a competitor.
While participating as a
professional rodeo athlete is an
important part of Ross’ life, he
said nothing compares to the rela-
tionship he sings and preaches
about all across the country. In
addition to pioneering several
cowboy churches, including the
Williamson County Cowboy
Church where he’s a pastor,
Ross has recorded a couple of
albums.

Sponsored by the Blue Moun-
tain Christian Cowboys, Schoen-
berg and his wife, Jill, will also
present special music. Everyone
is invited to the cowboy church
service, which is Tuesday at 6 p.m.
in the South Grandstands at the
Pendleton Round-Up Grounds.
No stranger to the event, the
Schoenbergs have provided
special music for the service a
handful of times over the past
15 years or so. Both also have
participated in rodeo events. Jill is
a nine-time Northwest breakaway
champion and won at the United
States Team Roping Champion-
ships in 2004.
The couple started a Bible
study years ago in their home
and then expanded it as a regular
cowboy church service — moving
it to Schoenberg’s veterinary
practice, the Equine Clinic in
Kennewick. Called the Watering
Hole, Schoenberg regularly
provides the message and he
and his wife team up for special
music, with Dick on guitar and Jill
on keyboard.
Married for 18 years, Jill,
whose maiden name is Rugg, was
raised in Heppner. The couple met
after Schoenberg’s fi rst wife died
of cancer.
Active in western lifestyle and
rodeo, neither Dick nor Jill were
raised in a church. They were
introduced to Jesus Christ through
others. Now, the couple enjoys
sharing their faith — especially
through the cowboy ministry.
Schoenberg said bringing a
faith-based message to cowboys
on the road is an important
ministry. Providing a worship
service right in the grandstands is
convenient for cowboys that are
constantly on the road traveling
to different rodeos throughout the
season.
“It’s hard to slip off to church
during a regular service time,”
Schoenberg said. “The idea is to
have a service after slack where
they could come and re-boot their
faith.”

hosts fi nancial course
Yakima minister
to speak at Aglow
PENDLETON — A Biblically
based money management course
is being offered in Pendleton.
The Dave Ramsey Financial
Peace University provides
information about budgeting,
investments, retirement and giving.
The upcoming course begins
Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at
the First Christian Church, 215 N.
Main St. The cost for the nine-week
course is $99 per person or couple
— the fi rst week is free. The fee
covers materials and online access
to information and forms used in
the class. Previous attendees are
welcome to attend free of charge.

WALLA WALLA — Michael
Danforth, referred to as a modern
day prophet from Yakima, will
speak at the Walla Walla Aglow
Community Lighthouse meeting.
The event is Saturday at 10
a.m. at The Center in the Park,
720 Sprague St., Walla Walla. A
freewill offering will be taken for
the event, which includes lunch.
Danforth is an author and founder
of Mountain Top Ministries.
Aglow, which started in 1967,
is an international organization
that seeks to minister to its
members and share God’s word
in the community. In addition to
the regular monthly meetings,
there are weekly prayer groups
and Bible studies.

Adam’s Road shares
their faith
Christan church
resumes fall schedule
STANFIELD — A Christan
nonprofi t group will share about
Jesus Christ through song and
testimony.
Adam’s Road is being hosted
by Crossroads Community Church.
The free program is Wednesday
at 6:30 p.m. at 350 N.W. Sherman
St., Stanfi eld. Over the past decade,
the group has produced numerous
albums, including a pair featuring
Christmas music.
One of the members was
rescued from a fundamental
polygamous Mormon group. The
other three are former Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
missionaries.

With the season changing, the
Milton-Freewater First Christian
Church is resuming its fall schedule.
