Brandon Lewis Spencer Pendleton January 14, 1976 - August 21, 2017 Brandon Lewis Spencer of Pendleton, Ore., walked on to the baseball field in the sky. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. Brandon was born in Pend- leton, Ore., to the late Chester “Sparky” Spencer and Ruth Spencer. He attended Wash- ington and McKay elementary schools where he formed lifelong friendships. While growing up, Brandon developed a love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also loved athletics such as wrestling, football, basketball Spencer and baseball. Brandon attended Pendleton Junior High School and Pendleton High School. He continued his passion for sports in playing football, basketball and baseball for PJHS and PHS. As Brandon grew, he found his niche as a pitcher. Throughout his baseball years, Brandon idolized Fernando Valenzuela since they both threw left-handed. On the mound, he often referred to himself as FerBrando. He continued to develop his craft as a pitcher and excelled for the Pendleton Buckaroos. Brandon earned the nickname “Giant” because despite his small stature, he lived his life and played his game big. During his senior year, Brandon earned all-star selec- tions within the Intermountain Conference and was also selected to play in the State Metro-League all-star game. Brandon earned multiple varsity letters for his athletics including the 1994 Mark Leach MVP Award for base- ball. Brandon then went on to play baseball for Mt. Hood Community College. He also attended Blue Mountain and Lane community colleges. Brandon is known for his laugh and affectionate smile. He truly cared for all of his friends and family. He espe- cially cared for his children, nieces and his nephew. Brandon was dedicated to attending his fami- ly’s athletic events and made sure they knew he was present to support their efforts. Brandon was also an avid outdoorsman. He was frequently in the mountains, hunting or “cruising.” He was also rarely without his fishing pole stashed in his car, as he could hardly resist being on the river when the fish were running. A grave- side service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at Olney Cemetery, Pend- leton, Ore. Patty will be missed by her husband, Clyde, her sister Helen Graymer, her three children and a multitude of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great-grand- children. Hunt Patricia Kay Hunt was born December 3, 1937, St. Anthony Hospital, Pendleton, Oregon. She was the youngest of five children of Claude O. Meyers and C. Frances Straughan. She was raised on the family farm and attended grade school in Echo, Oregon. She trans- ferred to Helen McEwen Junior High in the seventh- grade, living during the week with her grandparents, M.E. Meyers, where they lived at the bottom of the south hill. Later she commuted with her brother, Wayne, who was attending Pendleton High School. In 1952, Patty’s parents moved to Pendleton, first to a basement apartment on Northeast First Street and later to their home at 803 N.E. Ellis. Patty met Clyde Hunt of Adams, Oregon, the love of her life, while she was attending Pendleton High School, where she graduated in 1955. She was employed by the telephone company. She married Clyde on her 18th birthday. They lived on Byers Avenue in a two-room apartment when their first child (Jeanne Marie, b. 9/6/56) was born. They moved to her parents’ home (Ellis Street) making the upstairs their home in order to save money to purchase their own home. Young’s Addition was just being developed and the back yard of their first home (2410 S.W. Olson) faced a wheat field. Their last two children, Larry Dean (b. 6/23/60) and Brenda Lyn (b. 12/20/61) were born while they resided there. In the spring of 1962, they purchased the Riverside farm residence with 6½ acres where they made their home for the past 55 years. Patty worked as secretary at the Methodist Church as well as the S&W Redemp- tion (Green Stamps) store prior to working at St. Anthony Hospital. She worked there for approximately 13 years, beginning on the switchboard and admitting clerk desk, later as personnel secre- tary. She worked at a radiology office for about 13 years before her retire- ment. Patty was a farm girl most of her life. She was very independent early on, but with life experience she became more increasingly so. She was not afraid of hard work and rarely asked for help with anything. She was a partner to Clyde on the farm, helping to move irri- gation pipes in the pasture, bucking hay or driving the hay truck. She would round up escaped cattle, once driving the tractor down Riverside Drive with curlers in her hair in order to catch them. She and Clyde enjoyed the outdoors and took several fishing/ camping trips to Montana, Canada and Alaska, and on at least one occasion “out-fished” Clyde with a larger salmon. She was an avid reader and kept track of every book she read. She was an accomplished seam- stress and quilter. Many of the clothing, table toppers and quilts were gifts of love to many of her family. She also enjoyed gardening and was the family genealogist. Patty was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1996, which reoccurred in 2004. She was treated with chemo for many years. She fought a long, hard battle, but chose to stop chemo treatment approximately one and a half years ago. She never complained about the chemo effects, or how treatment effected her quality of the life. She fought to the bitter end and will be remembered as an independent, strong, hard- working woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother.
