Murder mystery dinner fires up the barbie
By TAMMY MALGESINI
East Oregonian
A barbecue meal is featured
during the upcoming murder
mystery dinner theater event
presented by Agape House.
However, before the barbie
even gets fired up, a mate’s
getting skewered. With an
Australian barbecue theme,
the menu features a choice
of maple bacon chicken or
rotisserie pork loin. The meal,
catered by Nookie’s Restau-
rant, also includes corn on the
cob, baked beans and coleslaw.
The cost is $30 per person.
“Bump Off at the BBQ” is
Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the
Maxwell Siding Event Center,
145 N. First Place, Hermiston.
Guests are invited to enjoy the
meal while attempting to crack
the case before their chicken
gets cold.
It seems someone is as mad
as a cut snake at Willy Willy, the
host of the barbecue. Among
the potential suspects are Sally
Monella, Willy’s voluptuous
neighbor; Crocodile Dunkirk,
the muscular park ranger;
Frank Furter, who is known to

mystery fundraiser for Agape House. A few tickets remain
for “Bump Off at the BBQ” Saturday at Maxwell Siding

tip back a few too many Foster
lagers; Sheila Swheels, a car
insurance broker and profes-
sional boomerang thrower;
and Sidney Oprahaus, who
works in importing/exporting.
Or maybe it’s Dame Edna
Average, Willy’s outrageous
girlfriend, who is anything but
average.
“Obviously, every one of
the characters have a reason
to want to see him not alive
anymore,” said Dave Hughes,
Agape
House
executive
director.
The murder mystery presen-
tations have been real corkers
for Agape House. Hosting the
dramatic fundraising events
every few months, Hughes
said they each net about $1,000
for the nonprofit organization.
Agape House assists with
providing basic services for
people in need in Hermiston
and the surrounding area.
This is the second time
the event will be held at the
Maxwell Siding Event Center,
which offers about the same
amount of seating as the venue
at Agape House. Hughes is
stoked with the arrangement.
“The biggest advantage is
when the play is over, my wife
and I can walk out the door and
we don’t have to clean up the
building,” he said with a laugh.
All joking aside, Hughes is
appreciative of the partnership
in working with personnel
from Nookie’s and the event
center.
“With their donation of a
good portion of the user’s fee
and what they do for us, it
makes it a lot easier,” he said.
The helpful bloke that he is,
Hughes will hook you up with
tickets or answer questions if
you ring him at 541-567-8774
or 541-571-7293.
