Locals win Washington title
Three Hermiston athletes recently helped Washing-
ton Angels Kinsey claim the USA Softball Washing-
ton 16U B State Championship. Kinsey went unde-
feated on the weekend. It was their second state
championship of the summer season. Pictured left
to right are Hermiston members of the team Ashley
Cameron, Halle Pennington and Janelle Almaguer.

Hodgen swept by Pepsi Pak
East Oregonian
Hodgen Distributing allowed 24 runs off 25 hits as it
dropped a doubleheader to Pepsi Pak 14-2 and 10-2 on
Thursday.
Hodgen’s only lead of the afternoon came when Gabe
Umbarger scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first
inning in Game 2, but the Pendleton 18U club had just
eight hits on the day and struck out 18 times.
Jeb Callahan threw a complete game for Pepsi Pak in
the opener, and then hit two home runs to drive in four runs
in the night cap.
Cort Dietrich homered for Pepsi in Game 1.
Quinn Doherty and Avery Deutz were the only Hodgen
players to get a hit in both games, and Ryan Stahl was 2
for 3 in Game 2.
Chris Large took the brunt of the damage on the mound
in the opener, and pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing 12 runs
(seven earned) on 13 hits.
Stahl was Hodgen’s starter in Game 2, and went two
full before leaving with seven runs allowed on six hits.
Brett Swanson pitched four innings of relief and gave up
three runs on five hits.
