Les Schwab Tire Center took
home the judge’s highest honor,
the Patriot Trophy. It was awarded
based on enthusiasm, interaction
with the crowd and American spirit,
Cook said. In total, 14 trophies were
handed out by Paul Godaine, the
parade grand marshal and an Air
Force veteran.
Some parade-goers said the
morning event took on extra signifi-
cance this year. With the cancellation
of Pendleton’s fireworks show due to
lack of funding, the parade was the
only citywide Fourth of July celebra-
tion.
“It’s pretty disappointing,” said
Pendleton resident Jennifer Dirkus.
“We’re going to have a family gath-
ering. But it’d be nice to take the little
ones to our local show.”
