Bowling Pendleton February 3, 1933-June 8, 2017 Hermiston July 2, 1965-June 9, 2017 Dorris Sue Lowe, 84, of Pendleton passed away June 8, 2017 surrounded by her three loving daughters. Dorris was the 8th child of nine. Born in Mansfield, Ohio on February 3, 1933. Her brother John met her love Robert while both stationed in Free Territory Trieste, Italy, and he shared a photo of Dorris with Robert which inspired many letters between the two. After ending his time in the service Robert drove from Oregon to Ohio in October of 1952 and the two were married Valen- tine’s Day 1953. Following their wedding ceremony, they headed back west. While working on a ranch in rural NW Oregon (outside of Baker) they welcomed their first two daughters and the youngest while living in Halfway. Her hobbies included sewing all of the clothing for her and her family, gardening, painting, and she also liked to school her grandchildren in games of Mario Bros on Nintendo. Dorris worked at the East Oregonian and PHS in the 1970s after many years as a Homemaker. She took a lot of pride in her jobs and loved the cash flow that allowed her to purchase extras for her hobbies. As a longtime member of the Shortmile Assembly of God in Mission, Oregon donations are suggested to the church in lieu of flowers. Per Dorris’s request there will be no services but her ashes will be combined with Robert allowing them to rest together in eternity. Dorris is preceded in death by her parents, 6 siblings; She is survived by her brothers; John Pickelsimer of Pendleton and Fred James of Redding, CA, daughters; Tarina (Robert) Thomas of Newport, WA, Cynthia (Rodney) Darlington of Pendleton, and Robin Weller of Pendleton, grandchildren; Allison Larson of Spokane, WA, Corey Thomas of Spokane, WA, Casey Thomas of Deer Park, WA, Ginger Ray (Geoff) Rieff of Pendleton, Nicholas (April) Darlington of Athena, April (Matt) Burton of Springfield, OR, Andrea Smith of Eugene, and James Weller of Pendleton, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Adam West, 1960s-era Batman, dies at 88 Was born in Walla Walla, Washington By SANDY COHEN and KEITH RIDLER Associated Press LOS ANGELES — Adam West, whose straight- faced portrayal of Batman in a campy 1960s TV series lifted the tight-clad Caped Crusader into the national consciousness, has died at age 88, his publicist Molly Schoneveld said Saturday. West died Friday night after “a short but brave battle with leukemia,” his family said in a statement. West played the super- hero straight for kids and funny for adults. He initially chaffed at being typecast after “Batman” went off the air after three seasons, but in later years he admitted he was pleased to have had a role in kicking off a big-budget film franchise by showing the character’s wide appeal. “You get terribly type- cast playing a character like that,” he told The Associated Press in a 2014 interview. “But in the overall, I’m delighted because my character became iconic and has opened a lot of doors in other ways, too.” He returned to the role in an episode of the animated “The Simpsons.” “He was bright, witty and fun to work with,” Julie Newmar, who played Catwoman to West’s Batman, said in a statement. “I will miss him in the physical world and savor him always in the world of imagination and creativity.” Burt Ward, who played Batman’s sidekick, Robin, was friends with West for more than 50 years. “We shared some of the most fun times of our Page 5A Darrin W.
