across to score on a passed
ball and then Doherty
scored the tying run on an
RBI double by Duetz, his
second double of the game,
which then set up Chiches-
ter’s heroics.
Hodgen had to overcome
a mediocre start from
pitcher Chris Large, who
walked seven and allowed
seven hits and nine runs,
five of which were earned,
in four innings. Cooper
Roberts pitched a scoreless
fifth inning to pick up the
win.
In Game 2, Hodgen
grabbed the game advan-
tage with a seven-run
second inning where 12
batters came to the plate
and recorded five hits, two
walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Umbarger opened the
scoring with an RBI single
to center to bring home
Chichester and then Stahl
drove in two with a single
of his own to make it a
3-0 lead. After a double by
Duetz and a walk by Duso,
Doherty smacked an RBI
single and then Chichester
was hit-by a pitch with the
bases loaded to make it a
6-0 Hodgen lead.
Hodgen then enacted the
10-run rule in the bottom
of the fifth after Large and
Cooper Roberts each hit
run-scoring singles to give
the team a 12-2 win.

iston pitcher Lukas Tolan
early with a five spot in the
first inning. Tolan lasted 3
1/3 innings and gave up five
hits and seven runs (four
earned) with one strikeout
and three walks.

5 — At Walla Walla, the
Pepsi DiamondJaxx picked
up a big win at the Walla
Walla Grizz Tournament
with a 12-5 beatdown
on Southridge on Friday
evening.
The DiamondJaxx rode
a solid outing from pitcher
Nat Hunsaker, as he lasted
5 2/3 innings and struck out
four while giving up four
hits and four runs. Ty Beers
also pitched one scoreless
inning.
At the plate, the
DiamondJaxx’s 3-4-5 hitters
did most of the damage as
Caden Primus, Lance Wolf
and Hunsaker each had a
three-hit day. Primus was 3
for 4 with a double and two
runs, while Wolf was 3 for 5
with two RBI and Hunsaker
was 3 for 4 with three runs
and an RBI.

College athletics continues
to be a launching pad for
student-athletes as three
more Timberwolves signed
to continue their careers at
four-year universities.
Sophomore
baseball
players
Austin
Florez,
Tanner Heiman and Gunnar
Johnson all signed their
National Letters of Intent to
their respective colleges on
Wednesday afternoon in a
small ceremony at the school.
Florez, an outfielder from
South Jordan, Utah, will
continue his career at Oregon
Institute of Technology
where he will pursue a degree
in psychology. Florez was
one of the team’s top hitters
in 2017, where he hit for a
.295 average, a team-high 12
doubles and 25 runs scored.
Heiman, a native of
Kennewick, will transfer
to Grand View University,
an NAIA program in Des
Moines, Iowa where he
will continue his education
toward a physical therapy
degree. The pitcher/first
baseman blasted seven home
runs in his career at BMCC,
and pitched in 18 career
games with 32 strikeouts.
And Johnson, a native
Oregonian from Fairview,
will move on to Dakota
Wesleyan University, an
NAIA program located in
Mitchell, North Dakota in the
fall. Johnson, a pitcher who
will continue his education
in the criminal justice field,
was second on BMCC’s staff
in innings pitched (53) and
wins (four) this season.
