OBITUARIES
TUESDAY
1:37 a.m. - A resident of Indian Hills Village Apartments, 1335
S.W. Second St., Pendleton, reported a prowler on her back
porch. Police did not find anyone.
1:34 p.m. - Someone abandoned a boat at the Irrigon Marina
dry dock about two weeks ago. A caller reported he sent a letter
to the boat owners, but the postal service returned it. He asked
law enforcement about what to do next.
2:08 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office took a report
of a burglary on Lefore Road, Milton-Freewater.
2:11 p.m. - Someone shot a BB through a window at 604
S.W. Dorion Ave., Pendleton.
4:26 p.m. - A Stanfield resident reported someone posted a
message on a social media platform telling her brother to rest in
peace.
5:52 a.m. - A Pilot Rock resident on Southwest Fourth Place
told police someone entered her house, stole four beers and
changed her radio station.
5:56 p.m. - Someone left their Shih Tzu in a vehicle with
the windows slightly opened at Little League Park on the
1900 block of Southeast Byers Avenue, Pendleton. The caller
was concerned for the dog’s safety because of the warm
temperature.
6:21 p.m. - Another concerned caller told Pendleton police
there were dogs in a vehicle at Hometown Cleaners, 1810 S.W.
Emigrant Ave., Pendleton.
6:56 p.m. - And in a third dog complaint, an Athena resident
on North Hunt Street reported their neighbor’s dog keeps
digging holes in her yard.
9:42 p.m. - A Boardman resident on Olsen Road reported
the theft of her Appaloosa horse that has an injury to its left front
hoof.
10:03 p.m. - People with baseball bats behind Suzi’s Handy
Mart, 211 N. Water St., Weston, beat a trailer.
11:18 p.m. - An Irrigon resident on Southwest Wyoming
Avenue reported hearing someone bang on the window. Law
enforcement responded and found a garbage can with a lid
against the window.

Robin “Bean” Alger, 57,
was born February 2, 1960,
in Portland, Oregon, to Ted
Dernovek and Betty Lou
Cox. She grew up in Portland
and attended Chief Joseph
Academy and later
Jefferson
High
School. After high
school she married
Matt Alger. They
later divorced.
She was known
for her loving,
caring, and very
kind attitude. She
chose to work
where she could
share these attri- Alger
butes with people
at Columbia Manor.
She loved to do arts and
crafts. She also enjoyed
painting and doing puzzles.
She was a beautiful
person and loved by all.
She
leaves
behind

Robert L. “Bob” Friend
was born September 13,
1946, in Walla Walla, Wash.,
the son of Lee and Anna
(Meads) Friend. Bob passed
away at the age of 70 on
Sunday, May 21, 2017, in
Hermiston.
Bob grew up in Herm-
iston and graduated from
Hermiston High School in
the mid 1960s. He began his
career as an electrician for
I.B.E.W. #125. He worked
as an electrician at the Coal
Energy Plant in Boardman
for 35 years.
Bob enjoyed hunting,
fishing and being in the
outdoors.

Pamela “Penny” Chamberlain, 75, of Pendleton died
Tuesday, May 23, 2017, in Pendleton. She was born Sept. 29,

Richard Roy Clark was
born March 29, 1937, to Lea
Clark and Gladys McBean in
Pendleton, Oregon. He was
raised in Pendleton
and attended schools
in Pendleton. He
lived his last two
years in Athena with
his daughter Brandy.
He
married
Sandra
(Phillips)
Clark March 16,
1973. They were
married until her
passing in February
of 2008.
He worked for
the Pendleton Fire
Department from
July 4, 1959, until he
retired on June 30, Clark
1989. During that
time he also served
with the National Guard from
July 1958 to July 1961 and
was discharged honorably.
When he wasn’t working
he enjoyed camping, hunting,
and fishing. He loved his
family and was often seen
He married Shirley
Titus, who preceded him in
death in 2009. He was also
preceded in death by his
parents.
He is survived by a
cousin, Ivan and his wife
Margaret Meads of Herm-
iston, and several distant
relatives.
A celebration of life
will be held at 10:00 a.m.
Thursday, June 1, 2017, in
the Burns Mortuary chapel,
685 W. Hermiston Avenue,
Hermiston.

Tuesday
•Hermiston police arrested Monica Lee Longoria, 22, of
Umatilla, for first-degree criminal mischief (felony vandalism)
and unauthorized entry motor vehicle.
•Hermiston police arrested Alvaro Enrique Cardenas, 23,
of Hermiston, for felony attempt to flee, possession of cocaine,
driving while suspended/revoked and reckless driving.
The arrest came after Hermiston police Tuesday made the
following post on the department’s Facebook page:
Dear Mr. Alvaro E. Cardenas,
A person matching your description, which we obtained
during your previous contacts with our department, ran from one
of our officers last night.
Coincidentally, your ID and other documents with your
identifying information were found in and around the vehicle that
person ran away from. Please call us at (541) 567-5519 and
make arrangements to pick up your property.
We also located a white powdery substance that field tested
positive for cocaine. According to law, we are not able to return
that to anybody.
