Man charged for impersonating police
officer to scare school bully
CENTRAL POINT (AP) — An Oregon businessman
has been accused of impersonating a police officer to
scare off a school bully.
The Mail Tribune reports 45-year-old Leif Reed
Johnson had pleaded not guilty Thursday to two felony
counts of criminal impersonation of a peace officer.
Central Point police say Johnson had gone to a child’s
front door twice posing as an officer. Police say he had told
the girl he “was investigating a case involving bullying and
threats made on a school bus.”
Johnson said he couldn’t comment on the case on the
advice of his lawyer, but he said he believed the whole
situation had been “blown out of proportion.”
Two teens charged over nude photos
at Eugene high school
EUGENE (AP) — Two teenagers face felony charges
after police found sexually explicit photos of girls who
attend North Eugene High School.
A probable-cause affidavit filed this week says the
police investigation began in February, after a student told
an officer that one of the teens had shown her nude photos
of numerous female classmates that he had on an iPod.
Detective Chris Mackay wrote that the young man
subsequently allowed the officer to view images on the iPod,
and police found thousands of photos along with videos.
The Register-Guard reports one defendant is charged
with using a child in a display of sexually explicit
conduct. The other was arraigned Thursday on a charge of
second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse.
Cyclist who says he was wrongfully
arrested files lawsuit
PORTLAND (AP) — A cyclist who says he was
knocked down by police officer while following the
officer’s orders is suing an Oregon city.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports 23-year-old
Anthony Allen filed a $475,000 lawsuit against the
city of Portland Wednesday. His attorney claims Allen,
who is black, was racially profiled. The suit says he
was wrongfully arrested by Portland police while they
searched for a suspect in a shooting.
According to the suit, Allen was headed toward the
curb when the officer knocked him off of his bike and
handcuffed him.
The report says the law enforcement officer tried to
charge Allen for misdemeanor for refusing to obey a
lawful order. He was later acquitted.
