All week long in practice,
the Pendleton Buckaroos have

on the pitch machine preparing
for the Milwaukie Mustangs
standout pitcher Bradley

The left-hander and Univer-

ace of the Mustangs staff, using
a mix of high-speed fastballs
and devastating curveballs
to attack hitters. And during
Friday’s Class 5A play-in
game, even with a week’s
worth of preparation and
practice McAvoy was still too
much for Pendleton to handle
as he struck out 13 and allowed
just three hits and two runs in
six innings as the Mustangs
defeated the Buckaroos 9-4 at
Bob White Park.
“He’s a heckuva a pitcher,”
Pendleton coach T.J. Hague-
wood said of McAvoy. “We
knew we would have our hands
full and have to play situational
baseball and put the ball in
play, and unfortunately we had
too many strikeouts ... the boys
were up there swinging and
battling, but needed to shorten

Senior thrower goes out with
personal record in discus
East Oregonian
EUGENE — Mac-Hi senior Landon Warne had been
fl irting with 150 feet in the discus early in the season.
He thought he’d hit the mark on a windy April afternoon
in Milton-Freewater, but his throw landed wide for a scratch.
He upped his personal
record to 149-7 in the next
week’s competition, before
a mid-season lull saw him
struggle to get back above 140
in competition.
He was back to his early-
season form by districts, but still
came frustratingly short of the personal benchmark.
Perhaps all he needed was a larger stage.
Warne came out with his fi rst throw in the OSAA Class
4A Track and Field State Championships on Friday and
unleashed the discus for a 151-feet, 11-inch ride that would
stand as his best on the day and his career for a fourth-place
fi nish that would lead locals to take the podium in large school
competition at Hayward Field in Eugene.
He also posted a season-best 43-8.75 in shot put, but came
up short of the podium in 11th place.
The next-highest placing for a local came from Hermiston
senior Ebony Wilson who was fi fth in the Class 5A girls’ long

EUGENE — Holding a one-point lead going into the
fi nal event of the OSAA Class 2A State Track and Field
Championships, the Weston-McEwen boys’ track and
fi eld team had to fi nish ahead of Bandon in the 4x400
relay to secure the team title.
Based on their seed times, it was the TigerScots’ title
to lose, but after a hard day of competition the Tigers
had proven they were a force to be reckoned with on
the track.
Perhaps no TigerScot knew this better than senior
Hayden Scott, who went head-to-head with three-fourths
of the Bandon relay team earlier in the day while racing
his individual events — to mixed success.
Bandon made the TigerScots earn it, but Weston-
McEwen was more than up to the challenge and fi nished
