invited to an event to trade
with other artists.

A treasure trove of rocks
and gems are featured in the
annual show organized by
the Hatrockhounds Gem &
Mineral Society.
Nature’s Treasures Under
Foot is Saturday from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at
the Hermiston Conference
Center, 415 S. Highway 395.
The admission fee is $3.
Ages 12 and under are free if
accompanied by an adult.

dealers, showcases of special
collections, demonstrations,
silent auctions and hourly
door prizes. A Kids’ Corner
offers special activities
and displays geared for the
younger crowd. Also, on
Mother’s Day, all moms are
eligible for additional special
hourly door prize drawings.

Driving class
cruises with safety
PENDLETON — An
AARP Smart Driver Class
will provide information
about defensive driving
skills, safety strategies and
current rules of the road.
Although the course is
designed for adults 55 and
up, all licensed drivers are
invited to attend. The class
also gives practical tips on
how to manage age-related
changes in vision, hearing
and reaction time.
The session is Saturday
from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. in
conference rooms 1-2 at St.
Anthony Hospital, 2801 St.
Anthony Way, Pendleton.
The cost is $15 for AARP
members and $20 for
others. People need to make
their own arrangements
to eat during an hour
break. Pre-registration is
requested.

Coordinated by
Pendleton Center for
the Arts, people are
encouraged to bring
everything but the kitchen
sink. Items could include
paints, paper, fabric, yarn,
beads, knitting needles,
crochet hooks, stationary,
brushes, jewelry, stamps
and unfinished projects
— basically any creative
supplies that can be traded
with others.

months of preparation,
the Hermiston Parks &
Recreation drama class will
stage “The Poisoned Apple.”
Described as a spin-off
from the Brothers Grimm
fairy tale “Show White,”
director Jenny Walker
said audience members of
all ages should enjoy the
production. In addition, it’s a
great opportunity to applaud
the efforts of the youths who
are performing.
The performances are
Thursday and Friday at
6:30 p.m. at Armand Larive
Middle School, 1497 S.W.
Ninth St., Hermiston.
Admission is $3 at the door,
or $2 if pre-ordered.
