BOARDMAN — The Riverside
Pirates broke a 2-2 tie by scoring
seven runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning, leading the Pirates to a 7-2 win
over Weston-McEwen on Tuesday
afternoon.
In the sixth, the Pirates (16-8, 6-6
SD1) had the bases
Softball loaded with two
outs before the rally
began, starting with
a two-RBI double
Weston-Mc. by Alexis Villegas
to put the Pirates up
4-2. After another
walk, Sadie Hasbell
hit a two-RBI double
of her own to put the
Riverside
Pirates up 6-2 and
then an RBI single
by Masie Hancock
and a TigerScot error
helped make it a 9-2 game.
Riverside also had a dominant
game from pitcher Skylar Wightman,
struck out 15 TigerScots and allowed
seven hits, two runs and one walk
in seven innings. She out-dueled
Weston-McEwen’s Jordyn Lambert,
who gave up just four hits in 5 2/3
innings but was hurt by seven walks
total.
Courtney Cain was the TigerScots’
(11-6, 8-2) top hitter going 3 for 4
with a double and a run scored, while
Sydney Peal was 1 for 2 with an RBI
double.
UP NEXT
Weston-McEwen will host Echo
for a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m.
Riverside awaits the weekend games
to see if it can hang on to the third
berth to the district tournament.
