PENDLETON 13, THE DALLES
0 — At The Dalles, the Buckaroos picked
up their 20th win of the season in style on
Friday with a five-inning win over The
Dalles in Columbia River Conference
action.
Lauren Richards pitched a no-hitter
and hit a two-run home run as one of the
18 hits by Pendleton (20-3, 8-1 CRC) in
the game.
Kalan McGlothan and Payton Hergert
added solo home runs for the Buckaroos,
and each also hit doubles. Hergert went 4
for 4 and McGlothan was 3 for 4.
Kirah McGlothan, Aspen Garton and
Maddie Parker were all 2 for 2, and Alexi
Brehaut went 2 for 4 for the Bucks.
“Our batters went out there with good
approaches and they waited for their
pitch,” said Pendleton coach Tim Cary.
Richards (2 for 3) struck out seven and
walked two.
“She’s just a tremendous competitor
and I really appreciate the way she goes
out and competes every game,” Cary
said.
UP NEXT
Pendleton plays a doubleheader at
Hood River on Tuesday that will likely
determine the CRC champions with
Pendleton holding a one-game lead on
the Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 3
p.m.

Jessica Lambert helped bring
down the Blue Mountain
Timberwolves in the first half of
an NWAC softball doubleheader
on Friday. A 12-run inning did
more than enough in the second
game as Wenatchee Valley beat
BMCC 15-5 and 19-1, both in
five innings.
Lambert pitched the complete
Game 1, and finished with seven
hits allowed and two walks,
but had plenty of support as
the Knights (26-10, 24-2 East)
cranked out 15 hits — two of
them home runs.
Blue Mountain (13-27, 9-17)
scored five runs in the top of
the fourth to pull within 7-5,
but Wenatchee answered with
eight runs in its at-bat. Sydney
Saxton Siaki (2 for 3, two RBI),f
Sarah Bonner (1 for 3, three RBI)
and Addy Daubert (2 for 2) led
BMCC’s comeback attempt.
There was no last gasp in
the second game, though, and
Wenatchee already led 7-0 when
it piled on with a 12-run fourth
inning.
Aaliyah Enriquez started in
the circle and got the win, and
Allie Kopczynski had her second
straight two-double game while
collecting eight RBI.

And on a 1-0 count, Ramirez
jumped on a fastball from Hood
River (16-7, 8-2) pitcher Conner
Coerper and smacked it into left
field, scoring both runners and
putting Hermiston on top 4-2.
The sophomore finished with a
team-best two hits on the day
with three RBIs and one run
scored.
Hermiston’s final run came
in the fifth inning, when Brylee
Dufloth sprinted to home from
third base on a passed ball and
barely beat the tag at home to
give Hermiston a 5-2 lead. That
run proved to be huge insurance
run for the Bulldogs, because the
Eagles gave everything they had
for a rally attempt in the seventh
inning.
With two outs, Hood River
scored one run on Ramirez, who
came on in relief of Tolan, and
then drew a walk to put the tying
and go-ahead runs on base. After
a passed ball, those runs moved
up to second and third with
Hermiston still just needing the
final out to claim victory. Ramirez
said he didn’t get too nervous on
the mound in the situation, he just
knew he needed to do his job.
“I told myself ‘Just throw
strikes’ and I knew my infield and
outfield had my back,” Ramirez
said.
And it worked, as Ramirez
induced an easy groundball to
shortstop where Caden Schwirse
threw out the batter for the final
out to earn the save.

“It’s a big win for us,” Ramirez
said. “That is a good team over
there and we want to play our
best here to finish the season.”
The win mixed with a loss
by The Dalles on Friday moves
Hermiston into third place in the
CRC, the final postseason spot
for the conference. And with now
two games left, Christy believes
the best is yet to come for the
Bulldogs.
“I think our upside is pretty
huge,” he said. “This is where
we wanted to be by the end of the
season in terms of playing well
and hopefully we can continue
doing it. We keep telling the kids,
anything can happen in the play-
offs and we’re a scary team and I
think a lot of teams can overlook
us, but we have a lot of guys who
can do positive things.”

HERMISTON 1, HOOD
RIVER 0 — At Hermiston, the
Bulldogs team earned themselves
a huge victory on Friday after-
noon, outlasting the Hood River
Eagles 1-0 at Rocky Heights
Elementary.
The only run of the game
came in the second inning, when
Hermiston (8-15, 2-8 CRC)
senior Ellery Jones blasted a solo
home run to lead off the inning.
After Jones’ hit, it was a pitching
duel between Hermiston’s Julissa
Almaguer and Hood River’s
(13-9, 7-2) Hannah McNerney
with Almaguer coming out on
top. The junior lefty allowed just
six hits and one walk in seven
innings to go with two strikeouts.
“Julissa threw lights out,”
Hermiston coach Kate Gree-
nough said after the game.
Bulldogs catcher Bailee
Noland had a solid game as
well, as she collected two hits
with a double and a stolen base
on offense, and also threw out
two runners on the basepaths.
Amanda Barron and Kalei Smith
also collected hits for Hermiston.
The win snaps a three game
losing streak for Hermiston and
snaps a four game winning streak
for Hood River, who had been
tied for first in the CRC with
Pendleton.

Hermiston hosts The Dalles on

PILOT ROCK 10-13,
HEPPNER 0-2 — At
Heppner, Tehya Ostrom
pitched eight innings of
shutout softball and the
Rockets smacked 21 hits in
a pair of run-rule shortened
wins on Friday in a Special
District 6 doubleheader.
Ostrom had a perfect
game going through three
innings of Game 2, but was
pulled to get Jacey Wilson
some work and she threw the
last two, allowing two runs
on seven hits.
Ostrom struck out 11 for
the day and walked none.
Rhyanne Oates batted 5
for 6 with two doubles and a
triple, Shayla Walker hit two
doubles, and Sara Weinke
hit a three-run home run in
Game 1 for Pilot Rock (19-4,
8-2 SD6).
Sydney Qualls went 2
for 4 for Heppner (8-12,
2-8) in Game 1, and Jenna
McCullough was 3 for 5
on the day, and coach Rick
Johnston said the scoreboard
may not have looked pretty,
but he was happy to see his
team making lots of plays
in the field and making the
Rockets earn their runs.
“I think we’ve made great
strides and I’m proud of our
girls,” he said.
UP NEXT
The Rockets close out the
regular season on Friday when
they host Union for a double-
header that starts at 3 p.m.
Heppner will also finish
out at home on Saturday,

4-10, IRRIGON 1-12 — At
Irrigon, the TigerScots and
Knights followed a pitchers
duel with some offensive
fireworks in a doubleheader
split on Friday in Special
District 1 play.
In the opener, Bailey
Hillmick out-pitched Mya
Chapman for a 4-1 win that
was the sixth in a row for
Weston-McEwen (11-5, 8-1
SD1). Hillmick allowed
just two hits and struck out
four while walking none.
Chapman gave up just three
hits, but also had five walks
to go with three strikeouts
and three unearned runs for
the TigerScots.
In Game 2 the bats came
alive for both teams as they
combined for 18 hits in a
game Irrigon (13-9, 5-5)
won 12-10 to hand Weston-
McEwen its first league loss.
Eleven of the Knights’
runs came in the fourth and
fifth innings combined, and
Chapman drove in four runs
to help get herself the win in
the circle after coming on in
relief of starter Kayla Gilman.
Jada Burns was 2 for 5
with two RBI and two runs,
Gilman was 2 for 4 and
Courtney Case and Karrizma
Luna each scored twice.
Amie Coffman was 2 for
3 with two RBI and two runs
to lead the TigerScots, and
Sydney Peal was 2 for 4 with
three RBI.

ECHO 11-11, RIVER-
SIDE 1-5 — At Echo,
Kenzie Gonzales overcame a
rough start to pitch 12 solid
innings to lead the Cougars
to a pair of Special District 1
wins on Friday.
Gonzales walked the
first four batters she faced,
but struck out the next three
and allowed just one hit in
the game as Echo (10-9, 6-3
SD1) cranked out 14 hits in
support.
Monique Montoya had
two doubles and three RBI,
Gonzales also had three RBI,
and Echo scored all 11 of its
runs in the first three innings.
Riverside (15-8, 5-6)
was able to get a little more
offense in Game 2, but
Gonzales still kept them in
check with five runs on five
hits with eight strikeouts and
no walks in the complete
game 11-5 win.
Hannah McCarty hit a
solo home run to lead off the
sixth inning, and Montoya,
Alex Putman, Kyndra Hart
amd Jennifer Martinez all
had two hits.

UMATILLA 0-2 — At Stan-
field, the Stanfield Tigers used
huge first innings to put the
Umatilla Vikings away early in
their Eastern Oregon League
doubleheader on Friday.
Stanfield (19-1, 12-0
EOL) scored 12 innings to
open Game 1 in support of
pitcher Brody Woods, then
gave Dylan Grogan a 13-run
cushion to open Game 2.
The Tigers stretched their
win streak to 19 games,
and were led at the plate by
Hunter Barnes (6 for 7, eight
RBI), Ryan Bailey (7 for 9,
three RBI), Grogan (6 for 9,
five RBI), Adrian Renner (5
for 8, four RBI) and Tony
Flores (5 for 9, seven RBI).
Renner allowed no hits in
two innings of relief in Game
1, and Flores tossed the
last three innings in Game
2 allowing two hits while
striking out six.
Seth Cranston went 2 for
3 with an RBI in Game 2 to
lead Umatilla (2-15, 1-11).

4-11 — At Vale, Austin Rice
gave the Knights another
strong start on the mound
and Tanner Mills came on
to quell a late rally by the
Bulldogs to win the first half
of Friday’s Eastern Oregon
League doubleheader 10-4.
Nyssa came back in the
night cap to win 11-2 in six
innings with huge effort from
Blake Cleaver, who tossed
4 1/3 innings while striking
out five and hit two triples to
drive in four runs and score
three more.
Rice struck out seven in
four complete in Game 1 for
Irrigon (15-4, 8-4 EOL) and
allowed two runs off one hit.
Then after Andres Gonzalez
hit a two-run homer in the
bottom of the sixth, Mills
came on to record the final
six outs and struck out four
while giving up no hits.
Irrigon took a 2-0 lead in
the top of the first inning in
Game 2 but that was where
their offense ran into trouble,
and Nyssa (8-11, 6-5) regained
the lead with three runs in the
bottom of the frame.

A doubleheader against
Riverside on Friday that

JOSEPH 8-14 — At
Boardman, the Riverside Pirates
earned their fourth victory of
the season to help them to a split
of Friday’s doubleheader with
Joseph/Enterprise/Wallowa.
The Pirates won the opener
11-8 before falling 14-6 in the
second game.
“The first game we played
really well,” Riverside
coach Clair Costello said.
“(Aramis) Corpus threw
strikes and threw well and
we made a lot of defensive
plays behind him and we hit
the ball well.
“The second game we
walked too many guys and
just didn’t play as well.
We’re getting better, but still
not quite there.”
Kylar Sorenson had a
home run for Riverside in
Game 1, hitting a three-run
bomb in the third inning to
help Riverside take control
of the game. Anthony Rodelo
had a solid day at the plate,
too, going a combined 5 for 8
with five RBIs and a double.

— The Helix boys have two
singles players into the semi-
finals after Friday’s matches
at the Special District 4
sub-district tournament.
Top seeded Erik Jones took
a bye in the first round and
hasn’t lost a game yet with
6-0, 6-0 wins in the second
round and quarterfinals.
Cody Dunn is the other
Grizzly to make it through,
and he earned byes in the first
two rounds before beating
Stanfield’s Hank Gehrke 6-1,
6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Jones will face Umatilla’s
Douglas Gomez in the semifi-
nals. Gomez beat Riverside’s
Austin Thompson in a nail-biter
of a quarterfinal 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Dunn will face off against
Ione’s Bryan Fowler. The
No. 2 overall seed, Fowler
beat
Weston-McEwen’s
Kellen Fairchild 6-1, 6-0 to
punch his semifinals ticket.

boys’
doubles,
Umatilla top seeds Armenta/
Armenta will play Mac-Hi’s
Villagomez/Villegas in the
semifinals. On the bottom
half of the bracket, River-
side’s Bedolla/Altamirano
will play Weston-McEwen’s
Shafer/Froese.
Semifinals match-ups in
the girls’ singles brackets
are Sherman County top
seed Meghan Belshe against
Ione’s Yaniva Garcia, and
Helix No. 2 seed Lynne
Roberts vs. Weston-McEw-
en’s Johanna Albert.
In girls’ doubles it will
be an all Mac-Hi semifinal
on one side of the bracket
