2:53 a.m. - Union Pacific Railroad reported its train would stop
in Pendleton and block all the crossings in the city for 45 minutes.
10:44 a.m. - A Hermiston woman told police phone scammers
pretending to be with the IRS left a computer generated message
on her answering machine from the number 229-299-5047. She
said she did not return the call.
11:09 a.m. - A Pendleton resident also reported a scam call.
While she did not give any money, she said, she did provide her
personal information.
12:20 p.m. - Pendleton police received a complaint from a
man on Southwest Emigrant Avenue who said someone threw
his mail on the neighbor’s lawn.
1:02 p.m. - A Pilot Rock landlord on Southwest Birch Street
told police a tenant refused to leave after not paying rent.
3:02 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office took a report
of a burglary on Arabian Drive, Pendleton.
4:42 p.m. - Staff at Kinzua Resources, 600 N.W. Cedar St.,
Pilot Rock, told police someone may have broken into the scale
shack.
7:12 p.m. - Umatilla County Search and Rescue were on
standby after receiving a call about a person missing in the
area of the Starkey Experimental Station and Frog Heaven off
Highway 244.
8:04 p.m. - Someone stole the mud flaps off of a Pendleton
resident’s pickup on Southwest Marshall Avenue.
9:29 p.m. - Hermiston police received a call for help from a
mother who said her daughter was out of control, slamming and
hitting people.
10:11 p.m. - A Hermiston man on Northeast Gladys Drive said
he is going through a divorce and his four-wheeler is missing.

•Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shawn Neil Lala, 41,
no address provided, for driving under the influence of intoxicants
and resisting arrest.
•Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tyler James
Schachtsick, 28, of 265 N.E. Cherry St., Pilot Rock, for felony
DUII and felony driving while suspended/revoked.

wife, mother, sister, aunt,

member and friend, went
home to her Lord and Savior
on Saturday, April 29, 2017.
She was surrounded by her
loving family.
Nikki Lee Nash (Mike-
sell) was born on
May 23, 1948,
in
Hermiston,
Oregon, to Jack
and Shirley Nash.
The fourth of nine
children, she was a
beautiful child with
bouncy dark curls.
Nikki
grew
up in Pendleton
participating
in
many
activities Mikesell
such as Campfire
Girls, Theta Rho,
and the Christian Youth
Fellowship in junior high
and high school. After high
school she studied at Blue
Mountain
Community
College. She married Allen
DeVault and had a beautiful
daughter Michelle.
She worked for The
Salvation Army in the early
1980s doing administrative
work and ministry and
then went to work for the
Pendleton Juvenile Correc-
tional Facility working with
at-risk youth. In 1991, Nikki
married Tim Mikesell. They
were happily married for 18
years until his death in 2009.
Nikki is a life member
and strong supporter of
VFW Post 922. She was a
dedicated volunteer, giving
her time and resources to the

ation director. Presented
by Rainier Amusements, it
features rides, games and
food booths. It also runs
Saturday from noon to 10
p.m. and Sunday from noon
to 8 p.m. Fetter said wrist-
bands can be purchased for
$20 at Fiesta Foods.
After Saturday’s official
opening ceremonies, the
Aztec Dancers will perform,
followed by a dancing horse
competition from 2:30-4
p.m. Food vendors will be
plentiful at the park, Beas
Fitzgerald said. The evening
will crescendo with DJ
music and dancing. A fire-
works show, Fetter said, will
fill the sky at 9:30 p.m.
Sunday provides a full
afternoon and evening of
live entertainment, said Beas
Fitzgerald. Taking the stage
are Mariachi Los Temerosos,
Ballet Folkloric, Arkangel
R-15, Band Koritas Musical,
Inizzio Norten and Conquis-
tadores 5.
“There will be lots of
music,” Beas Fitzgerald
said. “These are big bands
playing until 8 p.m.”
