2016 Cattle Barons Scholarship Awards
Terrel Platt:
Received the Cattle Barons scholarship
He graduated from Pendleton High school in 2015
He is attending Colorado State University studying agribusiness and
animal science.
He is currently on the Meat judging team and will start livestock judging
team this fall.
Bradey Cope:
Received the Cattle Barons and the Protect the Harvest scholarships.
He is a 2016 graduate of Helix.
He is attending BMCC with a major of Agricultural Production.
Internship with Simplot.
Makenzi Hughes:
Received the Cattle Barons and the Protect the Harvest Scholarships
She graduated from Heppner High School in 2015
Presently attending BMCC to get her A.S. Degree with an emphasis in
agriculture. Th en plans to attend EOU to get a OSU bachelors in AG
science with a minor in Communications, Th en go to OSU to earn a
masters in AG Education to become a AG teacher.
Makenzie was a member of the 2016 Pendleton Roundup Court.
Tucker Wilson:
Received the Cattle Barons and the Protect the Harvest Scholarships
He graduated from Helix in 2016
He is attending Whitworth University in Spokane
He is a biology major for his undergrad, with a goal of getting his
doctorate in zoology
He is on the Whitworth Forensics team (speech and debate) that took
4th our of 136 teams for the season.
Cattle Barons Legacy Award
Th e Pendleton Cattle Barons Legacy Award honors a person or family that
has had an infl uential role in the ranching, beef, or horse industry and has
exhibited a positive example of the Western lifestyle. Th e ideal candidate is
passionate about the Western lifestyle and has left his or her mark on the
industry. It is less about the size of their outfi t and more about the size of the
impact they have on agriculture in the region. Th e recipients have encouraged
young people to be involved in agriculture. Th ey exemplify the spirit of Cattle
Barons Weekend.
Th e 2017 Legacy Award will be award to Anderson Land & Livestock on Sat-
urday, May 13 at 3 p.m. in the Convention Center. Th is multi-generation busi-
ness is owned and operated by the Anderson family of Pilot Rock, who run a 2016 Cattle Barons Legacy Award winners Randy and Rosemary Severe
progressive cattle breeding program and raise ranch horses.
