PILOT ROCK 22-19,
CULVER 1-0 — At Culver,
Pilot Rock took advantage
of a weak Culver team and
got the offense going as the
Rockets tallied 41 runs and
34 hits in a sweep of the
Bulldogs on Saturday.
Sara Weinke had a perfect
day on offense for Pilot Rock
(15-4, 6-2 SD6), as she went
7 for 7 on the day with a home
run and double with seven
runs scored. Also having
big days for Pilot Rock were
Shayla Walker with six hits
and two doubles, Rhyanne
Oates with three doubles and
Jilian Adlard with a home run
and a double.
Pilot Rock coach Darin
Fitzpatrick said he was
happy to be able to clear his
bench and give every player
a chance to play in the game
and get them meaningful
experience. The Rockets
threw four pitchers on the
day, including freshman
Ayana Aguilar and Brielle
Howland who threw all five
innings of Game 1.
Aguilar allowed three hits
and one run with three strike-
outs, while Howland gave up
just one hit with four strike-
outs in two innings. Tehya
Ostrom started Game 2 and
threw four shutout innings
with just two hits allowed
and nine strikeouts, while

WESTON-MCEWEN
4-4, CULVER 5-2 — At
Culver, Hunter Sater allowed
just seven hits and two runs
as he threw a complete game
victory to help the Weston-
McEwen TigerScots earn
a doubleheader split with
Culver on Saturday. Culver
took the first game 5-4 and
Weston-McEwen won the
second game 4-2.
In Game 1, Weston-
McEwen (6-9, 4-6 SD6)
trailed 4-2 as it came to bat in
the top of the seventh and the
TigerScots rallied to tie the
game on a one-out, two-RBI
double by Brendan Dearing.
But Culver answered right
back in the bottom of the
frame, as an outfield error
allowed a runner to score
from first for the walk-off
Bulldog win.
Errors plagued Weston-
McEwen big time as it tallied
11 total on the day, but eight
alone came in the first game.
The eight errors put a damper
on Travis Hendley’s day on
the mound in Game 1, as
he gave up five unearned
runs with eight hits and four
strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.
Hendley also had a great
game on offense Saturday,
as he went a combined 4 for
8 with two runs and three
doubles.
In Game 2, Weston-
McEwen trailed 2-1 in
the fourth inning but the
TigerScots broke the game
open with a three-run bottom
of the fourth. Garrett Smith
hit an RBI single to center
to tie the game at 2-2 and
then Dearing brought in the
go-ahead runs with a double
to left field.

ELGIN 9-16, HEPPNER
4-11 — At Heppner, the
Mustangs fell just short of
snapping their losing streak
on Saturday afternoon as
Elgin swept the Mustangs
9-4 and 16-11.
Heppner (1-19, 0-14 SD6)
led the Huskies 11-10 as the
two went to the bottom of the
sixth inning, but Elgin struck
for six runs in the sixth to take
back the lead and clinch the
victory. The win came after
Elgin peppered Heppner for
six hits and took advantage
of six Mustang errors for the
win in Game 1.
Wyatt
Steagall
led
Heppner with four hits on
the day and he added one
run scored and an RBI. Tyler
Carter had a team-best four
RBI that he compiled in
Game 2, while Coby Dough-
erty and Beau Wolters each
scored three runs.

by
Brooke
Kralman. BMCC added on
later in the inning, when
Megan Ulrey hit an RBI
single and Bailey Anderson
smacked a two-RBI double
to put BMCC in front 5-1.
From that point on,
BMCC kept the gas pedal
down as it scored four more
runs in the third and four in
the fourth, bookended by a
two-run home run by Sara
Bonner, her team-leading
11th this season, to put the
Timberwolves up 13-3.
“It was great to get the
wins today,” Slater said.
“We really needed to come
back and play a whole
different game after Friday
and we did that and I’m
proud of the way we did it.”
The second game started
out looking like trouble
for the Timberwolves, as
Columbia Basin piled on
a 5-0 lead and the Timber-
wolves had a mere four
hits through three innings.
BMCC pitcher Megan
Ulrey was fighting through
command issues, but limited
the damage enough to let her
offense finally catch up.
“Megan said she had
issues throwing strikes and
couldn’t control her pitches
but she battled through it,”
BMCC coach Steven Rich-
ards said. “And finally our
offense kicked in and started
doing what it could do and
that’s where this team really
gets going.”
Anderson led off the
inning with a single, and
then scored just one batter
later to cut the deficit to
5-1 and then three straight
batters reached base to have
them loaded with zero outs.
That started a string of three
straight RBI doubles by
Bonner, Lauren Cagle and
Sydney Saxton Siaki to cut
the deficit to just 6-5.
The Timberwolves then
tied the game when Cagle

ONTARIO
22-13,
MAC-HI 1-0 — At
Milton-Freewater,
the
Mac-Hi Pioneers saw their
losing skid hit nine games
after Ontario swept the
Pioneers 22-1 and 13-0 on
Saturday afternoon.
Mac-Hi mustered just
three hits on the day as
Ontario pitchers Noah Nava-
rette and Zach Forsyth kept
the Pioneer bats extremely
quiet. Navarette struck out
seven and gave up just one
hit in Game 1, while Forsyth
allowed just two hits and
struck out nine in a combined
six innings.
The Pioneers scored their
only run in the second inning
of Game 1, when Rudy
Esparza reached base on an
outfield error and then came
around and scored on an error
by the Ontario shortstop.

ball, and then immediately
took a 6-5 lead on a solo
home run by Megan Ulrey,
her ninth of the season. In all,
eight batters came to the plate
and six runs scored before the
Timberwolves recorded an out.
But Blue Mountain
was not done. Anderson’s
second at-bat of the inning
was even more productive
as she smacked a triple to
right and she then scored on
passed ball. Then Kralman
hit a two-run home run for
the final runs of the inning
and Blue Mountain led 11-5.
“I’m proud of the way we
won that one,” Slater said. “We
were down and came back and
showed a lot of heart. A lot
of teams take us for granted
and we need to show them
that we’re not to be take for
granted because we’re not.”
Seven of the 10 Timber-
wolves to record an at-bat
had at least three hits on the
day, including Saxton Siaki
who had a team-high five
hits. Slater said that having
that balance was key for the
Timberwolves and will need
to be over the final push to
the playoffs.
“In the past we’ve had
stints where parts of the
lineup would hit well and
others would struggle,” she
said. “And when we put it all
together and everybody does
their job, we play amazing
and this was the result. We’re
unbeatable if that happens, I
really think so.”
