FRIDAY
8:18 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office received a
complaint from a resident of Toms Camp Road, Boardman, who
said a man driving a gray Chevrolet Tahoe was trespassing on
local properties and inspecting irrigation boxes.
9:02 a.m. - High winds in the area reportedly blew metal off
the roof of Grace Baptist Church, 2809 S.W. Goodwin Ave.,
Pendleton. A resident of Southwest Fifth Street, Pendleton, also
called police at 10:20 a.m. to say that “her roof is blowing off in
sheets of metal.”
12:32 p.m. - Theft was reported by a resident of B&M
Manufactured Home Court, 2903 N.E. Riverside Ave., Pendleton.
The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Department took a report.
2:24 p.m. - Pendleton police are investigating a report of
fraudulent bank activity at Bank of the West, 203 S.W. 20th St.,
Pendleton
2:55 p.m. - Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies received a theft
report from a resident of North Franklin Street, Weston.
6:01 p.m. - An employee of Sub Zero Restaurant, 100 E.
Highway 730, Irrigon, called Morrow County Sheriff’s Office to
report a woman had been run off the road and had hit her chest
on the steering wheel. The woman was transported to Good
Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.
8:09 p.m. - A resident of Northeast Hebron Drive, Pendleton,
reported a pistol was stolen from their home, but did not know
when the theft occurred. Pendleton police took a theft report.
11:46 p.m. - A resident of Wilson Mobile Home Park, 2910
N.E. Riverside Ave., Pendleton, reported her home was burglar-
ized while she was at the movies.
SATURDAY
12:02 a.m. - A resident of Third Street, Umatilla, reported a
prowler on her front porch. Umatilla police contacted the woman.
1:57 a.m. - Two possible drunk drivers were contacted by
Pendleton police, the first at Circle K, 335 S.E. Court Ave., and
the second 15 minutes later on Southwest Third Street. One
arrest was made.
7:25 a.m. - A man and a woman were reported trying to break
into a house on West Beebe Avenue, Hermiston.
7:45 a.m. - A gun was found in a box of beer bottles on
Southeast Court Avenue, Pendleton.
11:05 a.m. - Pilot Rock police responded to a home on
Northeast Douglas Street after a report of a woman pointing a
firearm at a man. One subject was arrested and lodged at the
Umatilla County Jail, Pendleton.
11:07 a.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office was
contacted by a former resident of Southwest Nevada Avenue,
Irrigon, who said she moved out six weeks before but left belong-
ings and vehicles behind, and the person living there now had
removed items from the vehicles and smashed her Volkswagon
Jetta with a sledgehammer.
11:59 a.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a burglary at
a home on Northwest 13th Street.
1:17 p.m. - Fraudulent checks were passed at Lorena’s
Tienda, 330 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston.
5:54 p.m. - A tailgate was reported stolen off a pickup on South
Birch Street, Ione.
9:17 p.m. - A woman called Hermiston police to report her
mother was assaulted by a man outside a home on Southwest
Desert Oak Drive.
SUNDAY
1:12 a.m. - A resident of Marshall Loop, Boardman, reported
3 men in the area trying to break into people’s homes, including
his home twice. Morrow County sheriff’s deputies were unable to
locate the suspected burglars.
1:38 p.m. - A one-vehicle accident was reported on westbound
Interstate 84 near Boardman but police and fire personnel were
unable to find a wreck.
3:24 a.m. - Pendleton police contacted an intoxicated man
laying in the street at Southwest First Street and Court Avenue.
9:44 a.m. - A woman reporting gunfire south of Highway 730
in Irrigon was told she was hearing activity from the firing range at
the former Umatilla Army Depot.
10:12 a.m. - Hermiston police were called when a woman got
out of her car near the Oregon State Police office, 860 W. Elm
Ave., and started beating her daughter in the back seat.
10:51 a.m. - A man walking at Southeast Isaac Avenue and
South Main Street, Pendleton “with his bottom showing” prompted
a call to Pendleton police.
11:47 a.m. - A woman driving westbound on Interstate 84 near
Echo called dispatch to report seeing three hay bales on fire at a
distance off the highway. Stanfield police investigated the report.
11:52 a.m. - A concession stand by the football field at Irrigon
High School, 315 S.E. Wyoming Ave., was broken into and
destroyed sometime within the previous 24 hours, a volunteer
at the school reported. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office
responded.
2:04 p.m. - A tool box was stolen and property rummaged
through in a garage on Adams Road, Pendleton.
2:10 p.m. - A dangerous dog that attacked a girl the previous
week was reported on the loose again on Southwest Delwood
Street, Pilot Rock.
2:19 p.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office was contacted
by a woman who said she located what she called a “bait dog”
in Hardman and thought there was probably a dog fighting ring
operating in the area.
2:43 p.m. - A woman on West Highland Avenue, Hermiston,
reported her husband shot himself in the foot.
3:22 p.m. - Two little boys asked for returnable cans at a
rental on Southwest 28th Street, Pendleton, then stole them, the
resident complained. Pendleton police were unable to locate the
juvenile thieves.
5:56 p.m. - A man at the Boardman Shell Station, 101 S.W.
Front St., reported two former friends stopped and asked him if he
wanted a beer. When he said yes and got inside the vehicle with
them, one of them pulled a gun on him. He got out of the car and
ran, the caller reported to Morrow County sheriff’s deputies.
6:16 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a vehicle
stolen from the Safeway parking lot, 990 S. Highway 395.
7:20 p.m. - Two travelers, one pulling a boat and another
pulling a horse trailer, were reportedly fighting at Love’s Travel
Stop, 78665 Tower Road, Boardman. The Morrow County
Sheriff’s Office was called to break up the fight.
8:04 p.m. - The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office contacted
residents of Blackhorse Canyon Lane near Lexington when
other residents and an off-duty law enforcement officer in the
area reported explosions that rattled their houses and shook
items off the walls. Turns out the men were shooting off Tannerite
exploding rifle targets, a binary explosive, at their property.
9:59 p.m. - Two watches and a gun were recovered from a
room at Umatilla Inn & Suites, 1370 Sixth St.
10:44 p.m. - A report of shots fired in the vicinity of South
Townsend Road and East Elm Avenue, Hermiston, prompted a
call to Hermiston police, but no shooters could be located.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
Friday
•Hermiston police arrested Tony Lee Colbray Sr., 55, address
not provided, on charges of possession of heroin, possession of
methamphetamine and felon in possession of weapon.
•Pendleton police arrested Lancen Boyd Malone, 40, address
not provided, for felony attempt to elude police and misdemeanor
charges of reckless driving, reckless endangerment, interfering
with a peace officer, and hit and run with property damage. He
was also arrested on a felony probation violation.
•Troy John Younce, 48, address not provided, was arrested
by Pendleton police for driving under the influence of intoxicants
(alcohol).
Saturday
•Umatilla Tribal police arrested Sylvia Sue Minthorn, 41,
address not provided, for duii (controlled substance).
•Zachary Cole Martin, 31, address not provided, was arrested
by Hermiston police for possession of methamphetamine,
possession of heroin, criminal trespass and contempt of court.
Sunday
•Oregon State Police arrested Oscar Pallares, 34, address not
provided, for duii (alcohol), possession of methamphetamine and
second-degree criminal trespass.

Brent L. Bieren of Kenne-
wick, Wash., and formerly
of Hermiston, Oregon, was
born on September 30, 1952,
in Ellensburg, Washington,
to parents John Austin Bieren
and Dena Louise Phare
Bieren. He died on March
31, 2017, near Troy, Oregon,
as the result of an
ATV accident at the
age of 64.
Brent
was
raised and attended
schools in Ellens-
burg, Washington,
graduating in the
class of 1970.
He
lived
in
Elgin,
Oregon,
until moving to
Umatilla, Oregon, Bieren
in 1974 where
Brent and his father
John started Desert Drywall.
Brent and his family resided
throughout the western
United States until returning
to the Hermiston and the
Tri-Cities. Brent continued
Desert Drywall and for
the last several years has
also worked as a general
contractor, building many
homes throughout the area.
Brent was united in
marriage to Pam Wilson
on February 7, 1980, in
Hermiston. They had three
children, Dena, Nick and
Andrea. They also have
six grandchildren: Brooke,
Mitchel, Brentin, Keegan,
Alena and Kason.
He was a mentor and role
model to many, donating
his time and heart to people
in need, always looking for
the bright side and bringing
out the best in others. Brent
was a believer in building
people up and spreading the
optimism he always had.
He was respected and loved
by everyone who knew him
and in the communities in
which he lived and worked.
Brent was a compassionate
business man who truly felt
his employees were a part
of his family, and he will be
missed by all.
He enjoyed camping,
fishing, flying, working in
the yard, playing poker, was
an avid reader and spent his
time helping others. Brent
was a devoted husband, Dad,
Grandpa, brother, and uncle
who cherished time
he had with his
family. In typical
Brent fashion, when
he left a room he
would pass the
remote and say,
“You have the con.”
He is survived
by his wife, Pam
Bieren;

daughter
Dena
Delee Bird and
husband
Jace;
son Nicholas Brent Bieren;
daughter Andrea Lorraine
Creed and husband Miles;
sisters Brenda Schlepp
and her husband Michael

husband Rich, Oregon;
brother John Bieren and his
wife Amber, Oregon; grand-
children Brooke, Mitchel,
Brentin, Keegan, Alena and
Kason; and numerous aunts,
uncles, cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Brent was preceded in
death by his parents, John
and Dena, and nephews
Thomas and Austin Bieren.
A celebration of life
service will be held on Friday,
April 14, 2017, at 3:00 p.m.
at New Hope Community
Church, 1350 S. Highway
395, Hermiston, Oregon.

Oregon, to parents

Doherty. He died
on April 6, 2017, in
Hermiston, Oregon,
at the age of 92
years.
John was raised
and
attended
schools in Ione,
Oregon, graduating
in the class of 1942.
He served in the
United States Army
during WWII in
Germany
before
his
honorable Doherty
discharge when he
returned to Ione,
Oregon. John enrolled in
Eastern Oregon State College
in La Grande, Oregon, where
he earned his bachelor’s
degree in education. He
married Jena Haight in Port-
land, Oregon.
John taught elementary
school in Island City, Ore.,
for two years and then one
year in Grants Pass, Oregon,
before settling in Pendleton,
Oregon, in the mid 1950s. He
was the principal at McKay
Creek Elementary School
for a time before transferring
as principal to Hawthorne
Elementary School where he
remained until his retirement
in 1986.
He enjoyed fishing,
camping, going to the cabin
in the mountains and fixing
things around the house.
John was a devoted and
loving caregiver to his wife
Jena for several years before
she passed in 2015. He was
a member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church, Ione Amer-
ican Legion, Friends of the
Pendleton Library
and the Pendleton
Elks Lodge.
He is survived
by his son, Robert
L. Doherty, Herm-
iston, Ore.; brothers
Matthew Doherty
and his wife Doris,
Hermiston, Ore.,
and Bill Doherty,
Puyallup, Wash.;
sister
Rosemary
Peterson, Portland,
Ore.; and several
nieces and nephews.
John
was
preceded in death
by his wife, Jena
Doherty,
his
parents, and six siblings:
Charlie, Neil, Mary, Anne,
Helen and James.
Recitation of the Holy
Rosary will be held on
Monday, April 10, 2017, at
7:00 p.m. at Burns Mortuary
chapel, Hermiston, Oregon.
