SHERMAN:

Continued from 1B
sion that a deal was unlikely
to happen on Wednesday, but
Seattle is sending a message
that it is clearly listening when
it comes to its former All-Pro
cornerback.
“It’s just open communica-
tion. He knows what’s going
on. We know what’s going
on,” Schneider said. “I don’t
know if anything would ever
happen, but like I tell people
all the time, 98 percent of the
deals that we’re involved with,
we don’t follow through with.
But at least we’ve opened that
door, gone down the road and
seen what’s behind Door A or
Door B.”
Sherman has spent his entire
career with the Seahawks. He’s
coming off his most volatile
season that included two
sideline blowups during games
when he clashed with coaches
and had to be pulled aside by
teammates. He’s also part of a
defense that is getting older —
Sherman just turned 29 — and
the upcoming draft is loaded
with talent in the secondary.
Schneider said there has
been clear communication with
Sherman about what is going
on, saying the trade rumors
haven’t been a secret and
they’re not going to lie about
what is happening.
“It’s going to be all laid
out, and like I said, that
doesn’t happen everywhere,”
Schneider said. “We have
open lines of communication
between our coaching staff
and our player personnel staff.
It goes through player devel-
opment, it goes through our
sports science group. There’s a
lot going on there.”

Johnston wasn’t the only Buck-

unforced errors were the main
contributing factor to each loss.
“Our kids are stroking the ball
better, their technique is better, we’re
just not consistent,” he said. “Nobody
was hitting the ball very hard today,
they’re just beating themselves with
too many unforced errors.”
Chris Riviello was steady at No.

run.
Ulrey pitched Game 1 as well,
allowing nine hits and six walks
with four strikeouts. She did give
up seven runs, though only one of
those was earned.
BMCC got the bats going early
and often in Game 2, scoring two
runs apiece in the first and second
innings. Sarah Bonner led off the
game with her team-leading eighth
home run and later in the inning
Siaki scored from third on an error
by the TVCC shortstop for a 2-0
lead.
In the second inning, Cagle —
who tallied a team-high four hits
on the day — smacked a two-RBI
double to left field which boosted
BMCC’s lead to 4-0. The Timber-
wolves then added on in the fourth
inning with a sacrifice fly from
Bonner to bring home Miah Slater
for a 5-0 lead.
But at that point, TVCC’s bats
got comfortable with BMCC pitcher
Tiffany Snyder. After registering a
mere two hits through the first three
innings, the Chukars smacked 10
hits over the final four innings and
eventually tied the game at 6-6 in
the sixth inning.
Then with one out in the seventh,
the Chukars won in walk-off
fashion with a RBI double from
Bailee Mills.

BLUE
MOUNTAIN 2-0 — At Spokane,
Washington, the Spokane pitching
staff kept the Blue Mountain bats
quiet nearly all day long in a double-
header sweep of the Timberwolves
on Wednesday afternoon.
In Game 1, Blue Mountain
(12-12, 3-3 NWAC East) scored the
game’s first runs as Tate Spivey’s
RBI single in the third got it started,
and then Spivey scored later in the
inning to give BMCC a 2-0 lead
after three.
But in the fourth, Spokane (11-8,
4-2) got to BMCC pitcher Brian
Howell and tallied four hits and four
runs in the inning, which proved to
be all the offense it would need as
the Sasquatch cruised to the 4-2
victory.
In Game 2, BMCC could muster
only six hits against Spokane
pitching, as starter Ryan Byrd
struck out 12 in seven scoreless
innings. Meanwhile, the Sasquatch
offense chased BMCC starter
Tanner Heiman after 3 2/3 innings
while scoring seven runs off him.
Austin Florez was BMCC’s top
hitter on the day with a combined
three hits, an RBI and a double,
while TJ Rea also tallied three hits
on the day. Hermiston product Chase
Root had a solid relief appearance
in Game 1, tossing 4 1/3 scoreless
innings with two strikeouts while
allowing just four hits.
