Man pleads guilty in
Pendleton armed robbery
PENDLETON — Dennis Lee
Burgess, 31, of Pendleton, pleaded
guilty to his role in an armed robbery in
November.
Burgess faced 13 counts stemming
from the Nov. 2 hold-up at Indian
Hills Chevron, 309 S.E. Nye Ave.,
Pendleton. He took a deal and on
March 3 pleaded guilty in Umatilla
County Circuit Court to two counts of
attempted first-degree robbery. Circuit
Judge Christopher Brauer sentenced
him to seven years, six months in state
prison.
Pendleton police arrested Burgess
and Peggy Turk, 31, of Adams, on the
night of the crime following a 9-1-1
call that a suspect armed with a rifle
threatened an employee of the gas
station and robbed the place.
Turk has pleaded not guilty to
charges of first-degree robbery, second-
degree theft, menacing and conspiracy
to commit second-degree theft. She has
a pretrial conference May 24 in circuit
court in Pendleton. She remains free on
bail.
Man pleads guilty to
attempted rape, sodomy
HERMISTON — The 21-year-old
man Hermiston police arrested in 2016
for sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend
now is doing prison time.
Antonio Rodriguez faced charges of
first-degree burglary, first-degree sexual
abuse, first-degree attempted rape, all
felonies, and misdemeanor charges of
fourth-degree assault, menacing and
strangulation stemming from his July
25 sexual attack on the mother of his
child. Police arrested him soon after.
Umatilla County Circuit Court
records show Rodriguez in February
took a deal and pleaded guilty to
attempted first-degree rape and
attempted first-degree sodomy. The
crime also was one of domestic
violence.
Circuit Judge Daniel Hill of
Hermiston sentenced Rodriguez to 35
months in state prison for each crime.
Rodriguez also received 10 years of
post-prison supervision.
Rodriguez now resides at Eastern
Oregon Correctional Institution. His
earliest release date, according to the
state’s offender website, is March 24,
2021.
Hermiston sex offender
faces new charges
PENDLETON — The Umatilla
County District Attorney’s Office is
bringing a new case against convicted
sex offender Robert Wayne Price of
Hermiston.
Circuit court records show a
Umatilla County grand jury in early
February indicted Price, 50, on two
counts of first-degree sexual abuse of
a girl younger than 14. The indictment
alleges Price molested the child in
January and June of 2011.
Price had an arraignment Monday
in Hermiston to face the new charges.
According to court records, he appeared
via video from the Snake River
Correctional Institution, Ontario.
That’s where Price is serving a
five-year sentence after pleading guilty
in December 2015 to three counts of
attempted second-degree sexual abuse.
Violent confrontation in
Hermiston sends man to
prison for two years
HERMISTON — Orlando Garcilazo
Madrigal will serve two years in prison
for using a gun to threaten a man last
year in Hermiston.
Madrigal, 31, of Irrigon, faced 14
counts stemming from a June 8, 2016
confrontation in which he pointed a
pistol at a man’s head at Southgate
Village Apartments, 1105 S. First
St., Hermiston, and tried to pull his
ex-girlfriend from a vehicle.
Court records show Madrigal took
a deal on March 16 and pleaded guilty
to unlawful use of a weapon and
attempted first-degree burglary, both
felonies.
Circuit Judge Christopher Brauer
sentenced Madrigal to 13 months on
the weapons charge and 11 more for
the attempted burglary. The sentencing
was part the deal Madrigal made with
the Umatilla County District Attorney’s
Office. He also will serve two years of
post-prison supervision.
He now is at the Oregon Department
of Corrections’ Coffee Creek Intake
Center, Wilsonville.
Madrigal in 2014 pleaded guilty
to second-degree disorderly conduct,
a misdemeanor, in exchange for the
state dismissing multiple charges
of menacing and unlawful use of a
weapon against another. He also is
the brother of Alonso Madrigal, 23,
who was shot and killed March 4 in
Hermiston. That case remains an active
investigation.
Judge to examine
victim’s records in
Hermiston rape case
HERMISTON — Circuit Judge Dan
Hill will review sensitive files in the
case of Hermiston rape defendant Jose
Marvin Antonio Perdomo Funez.
Defense attorney L. Kent Fisher of
Pendleton filed a motion in early March
to have a judge conduct an “in camera,”
or “private,” inspection of social
services, mental health, medical, and
education records related to the alleged
victim in the case.
According to the filing, the Umatilla
County District Attorney’s Office joins
in the request for the review.
Hill approved the request Thursday.
The court schedule shows the records
are due to the judge on April 13.
The state accused Funez, 30, of
committing first-degree rape and
first-degree sexual against one woman
on Aug. 5, 2016. He has pleaded not
guilty to charges and has been free
on recognizance since December,
according to court records. His next
court appearance takes place May 1.
