Page 6A COMMUNITY East Oregonian Thursday, March 30, 2017 Pendleton Center for the Arts seeks entries for Open Regional Exhibit Photography is only medium not accepted East Oregonian Artists from across the region are invited to submit artwork for the Open Regional Exhibit at Pendleton Center for the Arts. Open to all amateur and professional artists in Eastern Oregon and south- eastern Washington, the accepted works include painting, printmaking, book arts, sculpture, mixed media and fiber arts. Photography is the only medium not accepted (the exhibit features photography during even-numbered years). The drop-off date for artwork is Saturday, April 29 from noon to 4 p.m. at 214 N. Main St. Pendleton. Contact the arts center to make arrangements for other times. The Open Regional Exhibit has been hosted by the Arts Council of Pendleton for more than 40 years and seeks to provide a forum for beginning, emerging and established artists to share their best work. Adults may enter up to two pieces. Also, a special teen category is available for artists ages 13-17. The entry fee is $10 per work for adults and $5 each for teens. Longtime sponsor, Banner Bank of Pendleton, contributes $1,000 in cash prizes that are awarded to artists in adult and teen categories. Visitors to the gallery can vote for their favorite work and the winner will receive the Jacque- line Brown People’s Choice Award. In addition, artists may offer their pieces for sale during the event. A 30 percent commission will be deducted from all sales. All artists, regardless if they plan to sell their work, must indicate a dollar value for insurance purposes. This year’s judge is Nicole Pietrantoni, assistant professor of art at Whitman College in Walla Walla. Her own artwork employs both tradi- tional and experimental methods of printmaking, exploring the complex relationship between human beings and nature via installations, works on paper and public art. The exhibit opens Thursday, May 4. At 5 p.m., Pietrantoni will present a judge’s critique. She will discuss why selected works were singled out for awards and offer professional devel- opment tips to artists. The opening reception follows from 5:30-7 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display through Friday, June 23. Admission to the gallery is always free. For more information or an entry form, stop by the arts center or visit www.pendletonarts.org. For questions, call 541-278-9201. ——— Contact Tammy Malgesini at tmalgesini@eastoregonian.com or 541-564-4539.
