PUBLIC SAFETY LOG
12:54 a.m. - A caller told Hermiston police a “gang of girls”
seemed to be attempting to steal a vehicle from a parking lot
on West Hermiston Avenue.
8:28 a.m. - A caller reported a transient man, whose coat
may have been on fi re, got into a car at Harley Swain Subaru,
1915 N. First St., Hermiston, and refused to leave.
9:19 a.m. - A woman at the Chevron station at 101 N.
Main St., Boardman, reported she had a cut on her hand that
would not heal and was infected.
9:33 a.m. - The manager of Drakes RV Services, 4701
N.W. A Ave., Pendleton, reported the theft of tires from the
business.
11:44 a.m. - Pendleton police received a request for extra
patrols in the area of Southwest 18th Street for a man in his
mid to late 20s who took a storage shed key and “had a very
threatening demeanor.”
12:01 p.m. - Morrow County sheriff’s deputies responded
to the area of Heppner Elementary School, 235 E. Standbury
St., Heppner, to deal with a possible case of domestic
violence after a 9-1-1 caller disconnected. Deputies did not
fi nd anything suspicious.
3:20 p.m. - A caller told Pendleton police he stopped a
group of juveniles from stealing a stop sign at Sherwood
Heights Elementary School, 3111 S.W. Marshall Ave.
4:08 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a father
hitting his adult son late last week.
7:31 p.m. - Pendleton emergency services received a
9-1-1 report about a female who was not in a stable condition
and talked about harming herself.
8:48 p.m. - A Hermiston woman told police her ex-boy-
friend was harassing her.

Monday
•Umatilla police arrested Raymond Elsworth Dungan, 40,
of Umatilla, for second-degree mischief and felony fourth-de-
gree assault constituting domestic violence.
Tuesday
•Oregon State Police arrested Stephen Mark Forest, 59,
of 80261 S. Edwards Road, Hermiston, for driving under the
infl uence of intoxicants (controlled substance) and giving
false information to police.
•Hermiston police arrested Nicholas Geraldo Guerra, 25,
of Hermiston, for possession of heroin, parole violation and
failure to appear.

on March 3, 2017.
Her indomitable Rehmel
spirit manifested
itself in multiple educational
pursuits, obtaining several
degrees, and a thirst for
continual learning with the
courage to stand up and
express her strong voice
and presence. Elizabeth
was determined in every
endeavor including making
people laugh about the irony
of life.
She was a faithful woman
and a loving and dedicated
mother to Jennifer, teaching
her to make candy for local
fi refi ghters and reach out to
the community. Elizabeth
made her home open to
others in keeping with her
ancestor’s beliefs.
She
loved
animals,
rescuing many, and the
outdoors, gardening, growing
fl owers and enjoying her time
over the last 20 years living
in Pendleton with Norman
Kessler. Elizabeth
was the Juvenile
Court director and
led
innovative
judicial programs
for the tribe and
helped
many
young
persons
transition through
diffi cult
times.
She wrote for and
won federal grants
that
improved
conditions
and
services to the youth. Most
recently she was helping a
national organization with
logistics for foreign religious
missions.
Elizabeth will be missed
by her family and those who
had the wonderful opportu-
nity to know her. A celebra-
tion of life will be held at a
later date.

of them have both their
bachelor’s and master’s
degrees. They were foster
parents to two young men
and hosted four interna-
tional students. There are
nine grandchildren as well
to bless their family.

and grew up on her parents’
farm on Butter Creek,
attending school in Echo.
After her father’s death, she
moved with her mother to
Hermiston for her last year
of high school, graduating as
valedictorian.
She attended Oregon
State College for three
years, majoring in business.
She worked at the Umatilla
County Extension Offi ce,
the Hermiston Herald and
Umatilla Army Depot.
She
married
John
Anthony
Campbell
of
Lonerock on November
17, 1951, at Our Lady of
Angels Catholic Church in
Hermiston. For 11 years they
lived on his family’s sheep
ranch on Rhea Creek. Mary
cooked for lambing, shearing
and haying crews, other
hired men and extended
family, while raising fi ve
children and many bummer
lambs. She enjoyed being
part of a large family.
The Campbells moved to
Lonerock in 1963, and two
years later to Condon. She
worked at the Gilliam County
Extension Offi ce, and later
as a fi lm librarian for the
Gilliam County Education
Service District.
She belonged to Eastern
Star and later joined the
Catholic Church. She served
on the Gilliam County
Library Board and Condon
City Council. In retirement,
she volunteered at Summit
Springs Village Assisted
Living and Condon Grade
School, where she helped
children learn to read. She
provided fl owers weekly to
her church. She always had
time for her grandchildren
and other youngsters.
The Campbells enjoyed
travel, including three trips
to Ireland as well as seeing
Mexico, Germany and
England; they cruised the
Inside Passage and made
many other trips within the
United States.
Mary was preceded in
death by her husband in
2004, and by two grand-
sons. She is survived by her
children Mary K. Maley
of Condon, Pat and wife
Patricia of Portland, Mike
of Condon, Steve and wife
Martha of Pendleton, and
Tim and wife Elizabeth
of Lonerock; a foster son,
Chuck Anderson and wife
Cathey of Kennewick; and
11 grandchildren.

MONDAY
The children of Bill
and Margaret Hansell are
organizing a 50th wedding
anniversary celebration for
their parents on Saturday,
March 11. It will be an
open house, cake recep-
tion from 2-5 p.m., with a
program at 3:30 p.m. at the
Athena Baptist Church.
The couple met while
students at the University
of Oregon in the fall of
1965. It was in the living
room of the Delta Gamma
sorority that Sigma Chi
member Bill met Margaret
Eversaul. Bill had been
elected president of the
junior class, and Margaret
was to become the class
secretary.
They were married at
the Westminster Presby-
terian Church in Portland
on March 19, 1967,
three months before they
graduated.
They were
called
to
serve with
an
inter-
national
student
Christian
organiza-
tion, then
n a m e d
Campus
Crusade
for Christ, now called
Cru. For the next 12 years
they served as campus
ministers in Berkeley,
Sacramento, and for fi ve
years in Australia, where
Bill served as the national
campus director.
In 1979 they returned
with their young family,
soon to number six
children, to live in the
Athena area and work in
the Hansell family farming
operation. In 1982, Bill
was asked to consider
running for Umatilla
County
commissioner,
which he did successfully
and served for the next 30
