The new firefighters are Gabe Billings, Wes Blood, Jeremy Griffith, Gaige Phillips, Trevor Phillips, Kyle Rutherford and Kelly Shelton. Three current members were promoted to lieutenant — Matt Fisher, Jeremy Gillette and Mathew Hodge. But he said the job is also one of the best. “You are the good in this world,” he said. Fire Chief Scott Stanton spoke in honor of the new lieutenants, acknowledging the leadership they provide within the department. “I don’t take lieutenants lightly,” he said. After being sworn in by UCFD board president Ric Sherman, each new and promoted firefighter received a badge and collar pin, many of which were pinned on by members of their families. PUBLIC SAFETY LOG THURSDAY said the city of Hermiston turned off her water, and she wanted an officer to call city hall to have someone turn it on or she would send in the military. 1:41 p.m. - Computer scammers got a Pilot Rock woman. She told police her computer reported catching a virus and instructed her to call Microsoft. She did, she said, and the person she called took remote control of her computer and demanded money and now keeps calling her. If your computer gets a virus, do not follow instructions to call Microsoft or another software company because the number will connect to the con artists. And if for some reason you call, do not allow someone to have remote access to your system. Instead, report the incident and contact a local computer repair company. 3:28 p.m. - A Hermiston resident on Southwest Ninth Street asked to speak to police about someone putting garbage bags over the fence and into his yard. 4:44 p.m. - Morrow County Sheriff’s Office received a report of two teenagers with guns on East Arcade Street, Lexington. 5:40 p.m. - An emergency call about a man covered in blood led to a flight in an air ambulance. A Heppner-area caller reported she was on Willow Creek Road about two miles from Black Mountain Lane and found a young man “all bloody” and walking with 6:41 a.m. - A Milton-Freewater woman suffered injuries in a crash. Oregon State Police reported Nely Cristine Funes de Barahona, 37, was traveling south on Highway 11 when her vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes, left the road and rolled at least once before stopping in a field. An ambulance took Funes de Barahona to a Washington hospital before state police were on the scene and could interview. The crash investigation is ongoing. 9:58 a.m. - Three children broke into Heppner Elementary School, 235 E. Stansbury St., Heppner. The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. 10:52 a.m. - A man reported the theft of his Labrador puppy from his vehicle at Northwest Farm Supply, 80411 n. Highway 395, Hermiston. 10:45 a.m. - A Pilot Rock officer at Highway 395 and Northeast Fourth Street dealt with a flock of turkeys in the road. 11:29 a.m. - Pendleton police responded to Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza, 613 S.W. Emigrant Ave., for a man who yelled at people and cars. 12:03 p.m. - The driver of a gray Dodge Dart on Southeast Utah Avenue, Irrigon, “flipped off” two people in another car, yelled he was going to rob one of them and took off. 1:07 p.m. - A woman called 9-1-1 and his dog. She waited for husband and they checked on the man. Soon after, an ambu- lance took the man to Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Heppner, which transferred him to an emergency aircraft for a flight to another hospital. The East Oregonian was not able to find out more Friday but will continue to investigate. 9:09 p.m. - A Milton-Freewater woman reported the theft of her gray Dodge Stratus from the 1200 block of Lamb Street.
