opens Friday

Students artwork from high
schools across the regional
were invited to participate
in a show at the Nightingale
Gallery at Eastern Oregon
University.
Topher Warren, a tour actor/director with Missoula
Children’s Theatre, rehearses for a production of “The
Princess and the Pea.” Area youths are featured in a
pair of performances Saturday at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
at the Hermiston Conference Center.

annual pool tournament,
raffle, auction and baked
goods sale raises money
in memory of Michelle
“Mush” Monaghan.
In its 15th year, the
Mush Memorial serves
as a fundraiser for the
Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation. The event is
Saturday with signups at
10 a.m. and play beginning
at 11 a.m. at Hermiston
Tavern, 425 N. First Place,
Hermiston. It features
partners, Straight 8 and
double elimination The cost
is $20 per team. People
may register in advance at
Hermiston Tavern, as no
signups are allowed after
Saturday at 11 a.m.
Raffle items include
a 50-inch TV, an electric
fireplace and a half a
beef. Tickets are $1 each
or six for $5. In addition,
donations are accepted.

An opening reception,

presentations, is Friday
from 6-8 p.m. at the gallery,
located in Loso Hall on
the university’s La Grande
campus. There is no
admission charge.
The EOU Art Program
faculty juries the exhibit
and will recognize the
student artists. Award
certificates, gift cards
and sketchbooks will be
presented to the Best of
Show winners in grades
nine through 12. Honorable
mentions will receive
certificates.
Special awards will be
presented by the La Grande
Arts Commission, Union
County’s Art Center East,
Crossroads Art Center of
Baker City and Pendleton
Center for the Arts — in
conjunction with Pendleton
Art + Frame, Art and
Antiques on Main and the
Blue Mountain Community
College Foundation.
The gallery is open
Monday through Fridays
from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The
exhibit runs through March
21.

teams from across the
region will compete in this
weekend’s Hearts in Motion
dance competition.
In its 30th year,
Pendleton High School’s
Rhythmic Mode dance team
hosts the event, which also
serves as a fundraiser for
the team. The doors open
Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
at the school’s Warburg
Court, 1800 N.W. Carden
Ave., Pendleton. The grand
march starts at 12:45 p.m.
and competition begins at
1 p.m. Admission is $9.
A concession booth will
be available for food and
beverage purchases.
Toward the end of
the competition, the
Rhythmic Mode dance
team will perform “Fear,
the Mindkiller,” its 2017
state routine. The team
has brought home the state
championship multiple
times.
