VIKINGS: Webb scores 23 points BULLDOGS:

the crowd like this in this gym and
I loved it,” Umatilla coach Derek
Lete added. “When you can’t hear
yourself think or talk it’s a great
feeling especially when the score-
board is like this.”
The game was in Irrigon’s
control for the majority of the game,
with the Knights leading through
most of the second, third and fourth
wuarters. But just as Irrigon would
get a cushion, Umatilla would
charge right back.
That was the case late in the
fourth, when Irrigon was holding
a four-point cushion with less
than 30 seconds to play. But then
Justin Maret hit his biggest shot of
the night, a 3-pointer from nearly
the same spot as Garcia would hit
from later, to cut the Knights’ lead
to 59-58 with 15.6 left to play. And
then things just fell into place for
the Vikings.
“It was honestly one of the best
games I’ve been a part of,” Lete
said. “You can’t draw it up like
this.”
Webb led all scorers with 23
points and also dished out eight
assists for the Vikings, with 15 of
those points coming in the second
half. Trent Durfey had a double-
double for the Vikings with 13
points and 11 rebounds while Maret
had nine points and seven boards.
Irrigon led 28-23 at halftime
thanks to a red-hot shooting
performance and some effective
man-to-man defense. The Knights
shot 52 percent (12-23) in the
quarter and were constantly giving
the Vikings fits.
“Irrigon played a really good
first half and we didn’t,” Lete said.
“I talked to the guys at halftime
about just having confidence ... I
thought we could play better and
I didn’t think they could play any
better than they did ... but Irrigon
just played really tough, they’re
game plan was great but I’m just
proud of the guys for pulling it out.”
Irrigon played well for the
majority of the second half, but
missed shots and turnovers down
the stretch caught up to them.
Irrigon shot 51 percent through
three quarters, but made just 3-13
shots in the fourth quarter and
turned the ball over a total of 23
times.
Johnny Philips led Irrigon with
16 points and seven rebounds
and Austin Rice followed with
14 points and 3-5 shooting from
3-point range. Hayden White added
a double-double with 10 points and
12 rebounds.

a win at home and now we have
three days to get ready for the
battle at Pendleton.”
Hermiston (15-6, 5-2 CRC)
owed part of its success to a
balanced score sheet, which has
been something of a rarity this
season. Four players finished in
double figures for Hermiston, led
by Xavier Rambo with a game-
high 16. Behind him, Chance
Flores had 15, Jordan Ramirez
had 13 and Hunter Walls had 12.
“I thought people were pretty
unselfish at times,” Arstein said
of the balance, “and we’ve talked
about getting more assists as a
team so that was a pretty good
night. We took some steps in the
right direction and it’s nice to get
a couple wins in a row here.”
Hermiston led for the majority
of the game, holding an 18-9
advantage after one quarter and
a 34-16 lead at the break. Hood

River’s offense picked up a bit in
the second half, scoring 36 total
points but the Bulldogs boosted
their scoring as well to keep a
sizable cushion.
The abundance of fouls called
meant numerous trips to the free
throw line for Hermiston where
they managed a solid 20-27 (74
percent) mark to Hood River’s
8-18 (44 percent).

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The
NBA has warned that Texas
could be overlooked for future
events because of a proposed
“bathroom bill” targeting
transgender people.
The Texas legislation is
similar to a North Carolina
law that prompted the league
to move the All-Star Game out
of that state. It would require
people to use bathrooms that
correspond to the sex on their
birth certificate.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass
says an environment where
people are treated “fairly and
equally” weighs heavily in
deciding host locations. The
NBA first made the statement
last week, and the NFL has
issued similar warnings.
Texas has hosted three
All-Star Games since 2006.
