Spaghetti dinner, raffle,
silent auction on Saturday
By TAMMY MALGESINI
East Oregonian
Pendleton police shut
down three loud parties
Saturday night and early
Sunday. Police Chief Stuart
Roberts said the activity was
outside the norm.
Police at about 11:40 p.m.
Saturday responded to a large
party at home on Southwest
33rd Street. Officers found
college students living there
invited a couple of friends
over.
“Much to their dismay,
people they did not even
know started to arrive, things

stress of finances added to the rest of the
things they have to try and take care of
right now,” English said.
In addition to the fundraising event,
an account is set up at U.S. Bank. People
may make a donation in the name of
Ryan and Laura Jokinen.

got loud and they did not
know what to do,” Roberts
reported. “We assisted with
dispersal.”
A rental house on South-
west Zeta Court was the
site of a party early Sunday.
Witnesses at about 1 a.m.
reported as many as a dozen
people were outside the back
of the house and making a
racket. Roberts said based
on the information he had,
“officers again encouraged
responsible persons to shut
down the gathering, or be
subject to citation.”
The last complaint came
at 2:22 a.m. Sunday about
a party with several people
at a house on Northwest
Bailey Avenue. People were
drinking, Roberts reported,
but they were all 21 or 22
years old.
“That is not to say that
minors were not present
before or as the officers
arrived,” the chief said. “It
merely states once the offi-
cers were legally able to get
inside, minors were nowhere
to be found.”
Police shut down the
party, he said, and evaluated
drivers for impairment.
Pendleton officers and
medics at about 3:10 a.m.
responded to the Pendleton
Family Aquatic Center,
1901 N.W. Carden Ave. on
a report of a very intoxicated
19-year-old. At least one
person from the party on
Bailey Avenue was there as
well, Roberts said, but he
did not know if the incidents
were connected.
Roberts said years ago
Pendleton had much more of
this type of activity.
“However, for the last
several years, minor parties
are almost unheard of,” he
stated, “meaning we prob-
ably respond to half a dozen
or less.”

Police arrest
burglary suspect
at rest area
BOARDMAN — State
and local law enforcement
Friday afternoon swarmed
the Boardman rest area to
capture a burglary suspect.
Alan Samuel Mansell,
31, now is in the Umatilla
County Jail, Pendleton.
Oregon State Police
Sgt. Seth Cooney said
Mansell is the suspect
in a burglary in Prosser,
Washington, about 22
miles north of Boardman
as the crow flies. Cooney
said he did not have the
details about how police
learned Mansell was at the
local rest area, but Friday
around 1:30 p.m. members
of state police, the Morrow
County Sheriff’s Office
and the Boardman Police
Department surrounded
the rest stop.
State police advised
other agencies the suspect
may have been armed,
according to police call
logs. Cooney said Mansell
did not put up a fight, and
state police arrested him
on probable cause for the
burglary.
Mansell in February
2012 in Boise kidnapped
a former girlfriend at gun
point and threatened to kill
her, according to a news
story from KOBI-TV,
Boise. She escaped after
about six hours, when
Mansell was taking a
shower.
Deputies from the Ada
County Sheriff’s Office
found Mansell hiding in a
crawl space, and a police
dog bit him during that
apprehension.
Pendleton police
looking for armed
robbery suspects
PENDLETON —
Pendleton police are
looking for two suspects
who robbed a man of his
dark blue 1992 Subaru
Legacy at knife point.
The victim reported
the crime Sunday at 2:30
p.m. from Dean’s Market
& Deli, 412 S.W. 20th St.,
Pendleton.
Stuart Roberts,
Pendleton police chief,
said in an email an
acquaintance of the victim
asked for a ride.
“When the victim
arrived at the agreed upon
meeting place, the suspect
was in the company of
another male the victim
did not know,” Roberts
said.
The two males entered
the car, but as the victim
began to drive, one suspect
allegedly produced two
knives, according to
Roberts, and threatened
to harm the victim if he
did not drive to Interstate
84 and hand over his
cellphone.
“The victim complied
with all demands,”
according to Roberts.
“However, as the victim
entered the interstate, he
jumped from the moving
car before running to
Dean’s Deli and calling
police.”
Roberts also said
the victim refused
medical attention for the
“outwardly minor injuries”
he suffered jumping from
the car.
“We are actively
looking for the suspects
who have been identified,”
the chief stated.
