same play with less than a

Sherman made all four
of its free throws to tie the
score 80-80, but its shot on
the ensuing possession was
no good and Stanfield pulled
down the defensive rebound.

“Both teams were playing
pretty well breaking each
others (defense),” he said.
“They were trapping us and
we were pressing them, and
every team was scoring almost
every possession.”
The second quarter slowed
down the tempo and the teams
combined for 23 points as
Sherman took a 36-29 lead
into the locker room.
Stanfield went to a trapping
defense in the third quarter
and Sperr said that helped get
the offense going with some
easy buckets off turnovers.
The Tigers also hit three of
their eight three-pointers in the
with four seconds left, but
couldn’t convert.
Stanfield is scheduled for
another big measuring stick
game today as it is set to host

Monday in a non-league win
that avenged a loss from earlier
in the season.
Braithwaite finished with
11 points and 13 rebounds
for Stanfield (4-13), which
snapped its four-game skid.
Stanfield coach Daniel Sharp
said Hart, who is a freshman
guard, did a much better job
of attacking the basket to help
the Tigers get out to a 27-18
halftime lead. Braithwaite then
scored eight of her points in the
second half to help the Tigers
hold on.
Desiree Winslow paced
Sherman (5-13) with 13 points.
The Tigers have a much
tougher match-up tonight as
they host No. 5 Imbler with
tip-ff scheduled for 5 p.m.

to fifth and was followed by Louisville, West
Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia and Wisconsin.
UCLA was 11th and was followed by North
Carolina, Oregon, Cincinnati, Florida State,
Butler, Maryland, Saint Mary’s, South Carolina
and Notre Dame.
The last five ranked teams were Duke,
Creighton, Purdue, Florida and Northwestern.
Xavier (15-6), which has lost four of six with all
the losses to ranked teams, dropped out from 24th.
The Musketeers, who had been ranked for the last
29 polls, were seventh in the preseason voting.
West Virginia, which beat Kansas and Texas
A&M, had the week’s biggest jump from 18th
to No. 7. Louisville, which beat Pittsburgh and
North Carolina State by an average of 40 points,
moved from 13th to No. 6.
