Saturday afternoon’s game was a perfect example as the Cardinals made just 9-40 from the line in a 54-45 overtime loss to Sherman in a Big Sky League game. Head coach Nathan Heideman said that the Cardinals (0-10, 0-2 BSL) had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation as Ivy Sandford stepped to the free throw line with just one second left in the game tied at 43-43, but unfortu- nately both attempts rimmed out. Then in overtime, Sherman (3-6, 1-1) took advantage of a few Cardinal mistakes to earn the win. “The girls have struggled this year and they just couldn’t handle the pressure I guess,” Heideman said. “Too many bad passes, too many turnovers. It’s frustrating because we could’ve put them away.” Ione did have three scorers reach double digits as Maggie Flynn led with 13, Sandford had 11 and Morgan Orem had 10. Kiersten Casper led Sherman with 11 points. Ione will now look to regroup as they next travel to Arlington on Friday. ———— SHS 12 9 12 10 11 — 54 IHS 7 14 10 12 2 — 45 SHERMAN — K. Casper 11, E.
