New Year Brings New Plans for Oregon Education
2017 marks changes for education nationwide and statewide, many discussed and determined by the
Oregon Department of Education (ODE). As Oregon addresses graduation rates and educational funding,
students, parents and citizens are encouraged to get involved:
ESSA Community Forum, January 18, 2017 @ 6:30 PM at Washington Elementary School in Pendleton
ESSA is the Every Student Succeeds Act, which governs U.S. K-12 public education policy.
ODE invites eastern Oregon citizens to share input on the state plan to improve student
learning & determine how to best support schools to meet students’ needs.

Check out the Oregon Dept. of Education’s new website, aimed to be more intuitive, easier to
navigate & more accessible.

Need some good news? Learn about The Promise of Oregon campaign, which focuses on the
