The Blue Mountain Timberwolves
men’s and women’s basketball teams
opened up the doors of Mosby Court
for the fi rst time in the 2016-2017
season on Friday evening, however
neither team earned a result they had
hoped for.
The Blue Mountain men lost a
close one to Clackamas 63-60, while
the women fell 101-74 to Grays
Harbor.
Men’s assistant
SPORT
coach Doug Baxter
said that though
the T-Wolves were
able to keep the Clackamas
game close from
start to fi nish, they
just could never get
enough baskets or
enough stops on
defense to charge to Blue Mountain
a lead.
“I felt we got
bullied around inside
in the fi rst half, giving up 14 offensive
rebounds,” Baxter said. “Second half
we were different, we matched their
physicality but couldn’t get a run
going.”
Blue Mountain (1-3) was led in
scoring by Isaiah Harris with 15
points on 6-9 shooting, and also had
a big game from Jared Mathews who
turned in a double-double with 14
points on 6-10 shooting to go with 20
rebounds.
“Jared played extremely well
inside,” Baxter said.
Baxter also pointed out Jamal
Logan as a key contributor in the
game for the Timberwolves, as
Logan pitched in seven points, three
rebounds, two assists, and two steals
in nearly 20 minutes of game time.

Another close call for Rogers
WNFR completes
second round
East Oregonian
LAS VEGAS — In a city
where fortunes are made and
lost by the slimmest of margins,
team roper Garrett Rogers
experienced another close call
on Friday night in the second
round of the Wrangler National
Finals Rodeo.
The Helix header, who just
celebrated his 24th birthday
on Nov. 27 and is making his

another quick and clean catch at
Thomas and Mack Arena.
And just like he had in the
fi rst round, heeler Jake Minor of
Ellensburg, Washington, made
a fast snare on the back end but
could only lasso one hind leg.
What would have momentarily

Puzey shatters distance world record
ORLANDO, Fla. — Altra Elite athlete Jacob
Puzey, a former cross country runner and coach at
Hermiston High School, ran into the record books
on Thursday at The Running Event trade show.
Puzey ran an average pace of 5:56 per mile
to set the new world record for the
fastest 50-mile run on a treadmill
originally reported by Competitor.
com.
He fi nished 50 miles in 4:57:45,
shattering the previous record of
5:57:31 by nearly an hour. His
Puzey
en route marathon split time was
2:38.
“I felt surprisingly great,” Puzey told
Competitor.com. “I didn’t have super high
expectations, I just wanted to see if I could run
the previous record’s pace. I happened to feel
really good today and going at a 5:56 pace felt
great. I put one foot in front of the other on the
treadmill and just kept going.”
“I don’t even know if I’m
subject to a drug test or
any laws from the NBA,
but I tried it, and it didn’t
help at all. But it was
worth it, because I’m
searching for answers
on pain.“

Straily earns Reds’ Most
Outstanding Pitcher award
CINCINNATI, Ohio — Dan Straily’s fairytale
2016 season continued to get better on Friday
night, as the Oregon native was named the Johnny
Vander Meer Most Outstanding Pitcher by the
Cincinnati Reds organization.
The 28-year-old right hander was
a unanimous winner of the team
award which was handed out at the
team’s fanfest in Cincinnati after he
went 14-8 with a 3.76 ERA in 34
games with 191 1/3 innings pitched,
and was the team leader in wins,
Straily
innings pitched and strikeouts (162).
Straily was a waiver-claim pickup by the Reds
just days before opening day with the primary role
of being a long relief pitcher out of the bullpen.
But due to injuries in the starting rotation, Straily
was inserted into the rotation in late April as a
spot-starter, before cementing a permanent spot in
the rotation for the remainder of the season.
