TUESDAY
8:54 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received
a report of someone shooting guns on property on Wilcox
Lane, Umatilla. The caller said several people have been
shooting there in the past, and also filing false police reports. He
requested contact from a deputy.
10:16 a.m. - Milton-Freewater police received the first of
three reports of broken windows, at Cellular Plus, 506 S. Main
St. Windows were also reported broken at 1:21 p.m. at 114 N.
Main St. and at 9:22 p.m. at the bus stop in the 300 block of
North Columbia Street.
11:24 a.m. - A Hermiston resident reported police telephonic
harassment.
1:10 p.m. - Pendleton police received information that about
a business on Tutuilla Road operating without a city business
license.
1:12 p.m. - A woman told Pendleton police the man she has
a restraining order against is making false reports about her
abusing their daughter.
3:43 p.m. - A Hermiston man on Northeast Fifth Street
reported he arrived home to find some items askew and tools
missing.
4:25 p.m. - An employee at Oregon Dehydration, 405
Hoosier Lane, Stanfield, reported a theft to Stanfield police.
4:27 p.m. - Transients appear to be trying to set up a camp
in Hermiston between Kopacz Nursery & Florist and Hermiston
Cinemas on West Theater Lane. Hermiston police are
investigating.
6:18 p.m. - A caller reported two people for the past two
nights prowled around Brooke RV Park, 5 N.E. Eighth St.,
Pendleton.
7:36 p.m. - Stanfield police took a theft report after a woman
reported her purse stolen from the mini storage near the
Stanfield Moose Lodge, 615 W. Coe Ave.
8:14 p.m. - A Hermiston resident on Southwest Porter Court
reported someone broke in and stole a PlayStation 4 and
money.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office arrested Marlen Andrea
Bowles, 38, of Heppner, for fourth-degree assault constituting
domestic violence.
•Pendleton police arrested Alejandro Gutierrez, 19, of 690
S.W. Ninth St., Apt. A6, Hermiston, on four counts of violating
a Family Abuse Protection Act order, and for one count each of
strangulation and fourth-degree assault, all constituting domestic
violence.
The Umatilla County District Attorney’s office arraigned
Gutierrez on Tuesday on the following initial charges:
endangering a person under a Family Abuse Protection Act
order, fourth-degree assault constituting domestic violence,
strangulation constituting domestic violence, and harassment.
He remains in the county jail, Pendleton, in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Bud passed away Nov.
16, 2016, at his home in
Hermiston, Ore., surrounded
by his family.
He was born
March 26, 1932,
to parents Wesley
and Thelma (Bean)
Englert. Bud grew
up in Newberg, Ore.
He moved to Herm-
iston at age 14.
Bud served his
community as a
business manager,
police officer and
judge over his 70
years in the Herm-
iston area.
Bud enlisted in
the Air Force Jan. 4,
1951, serving in the Englert
Korean War.
Among Bud’s
proudest
achievements
was owning Bud’s Pub in
Heppner, Ore. He was a life-
long auto enthusiast, racing
stock cars, motorcycles and
more. He loved to fish with
his family and friends.
Bud is survived by his
wife Patti of Hermiston;
children John (Donna),
Alan, Tony, Marie (Nick),
Linda, Nikki (Will)
and Jenni; many
grandchildren and
great-grandchil-
dren; and numerous
nieces and nephews.

was
preceded in death
by
his
father

Iona
Robertson,
and brother Elmer
Englert.
Graveside
services with mili-
tary honors will
be held Saturday,
Nov. 26 at 1 p.m.

64, of La Grande passed
away from complications
of lymphoma on Saturday,
November 19, 2016, at
Grande Ronde Hospital.

Ritchie was born
June 17, 1952, in La
Grande, Oregon, to
Eugene and Gertie
(Nebeker) Hibbert. Hibbert
He graduated
from La Grande
High School in 1970 and
went on to study at Eastern
Oregon University and earned
a general studies degree, and
OHSU where he earned his
degree in dentistry.
Ritchie was involved
with Boy Scouts of America,
coached pole vaulting at
Pendleton High School, and
was devoted to his church
serving as bishop and branch
president. He also loved
to spend time working on
his mountain land with his
brothers and grandchildren.
He touched many people’s
lives and will be greatly
missed.
Ritchie is survived by his
wife Debbie and five children:

Ardith Chaney Hoffman
passed away on November
10, 2016, at the age of 100
years. She was born August
23, 1916, to Henrietta and
Henry Talich in Giltner,
Nebraska.
The oldest of six chil-
dren, she graduated from
Giltner
High
School.
She
married
Cecil
Chaney in Grand
Island, Nebraska,
in January of
1937. The couple
came to Oregon
later that year,
eventually settling
in Pendleton. They
enjoyed traveling
and
fishing Hoffman
together over the
years. The couple
adopted one very fortunate
child,
Kathryn.
Cecil
passed away in 1974.
Ardith worked for the
Pendleton School District
for 27 years as school cafe-
teria manager. People often
comment on her legendary
cinnamon rolls. She was an
active member of Calvary
Baptist Church, and later
Grace Baptist Church in
Pendleton. She was active
in the Senior Center in
Pendleton.
She married “Hoff”
Hoffman in 1978. They
enjoyed living in Yuma,
Arizona, during the winter
months each year. Ardith
was active in community
life while in Yuma and
became an accomplished
shuffleboard
player,
winning
many
trophies.
Ardith
was
preceded in death
by Cecil (1974),
“Hoff”
(2013),
her parents, and
siblings
Helen,
Richard,
Wilma
and Eleanor. Her
grandson, Jason
Chaney
Hicks,
passed away in
2010.
Ardith
is
survived by her brother
Roger
of
Colorado,
daughter Kathryn Chaney,
and granddaughter Rachel
and
great-granddaughter
Riley, both of Wisconsin.
Her surviving family is
grateful for the compas-
sionate and loving care she
received at Suttle Care and
Retirement in Pendleton.
Friends will gather
briefly at Olney Cemetery
on November 28, 2016, at
10:00 a.m.
