Carroll had been battling Lewy body dementia for more than eight years. Carroll was born to parents Lillian and Jesse Davis in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in Pocatello, Idaho, until his freshman year of high school, whereupon his family moved to Boise, Idaho. Carroll graduated from Boise High School in 1952, and attended Boise Junior College. In 1953, Carroll was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea. On April 18, 1960, Carroll married Eulah Munns in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The Davis couple lived for a short time in Boise, Idaho, before moving to Pasco, Washington, for 10 years, and finally settling in Pendleton, Oregon, in 1973, where Carroll lived the remainder of his life. Carroll worked in the small loan and finance industry for many years. In 1973, he began working as a credit manager for Woodpecker Truck & Equipment, until his retirement in 1995. Carroll had many interests, and in retirement had more time to experience traveling with his wife Eulah, friends, and other family. He traveled to several places both foreign and domestic, including Wales, where ancestors on both sides of his family originated. Carroll often times explained that he was a “double Davis,” as his moth- er’s maiden name was also “Davis.” Carroll developed a passion for oriental rugs and items from antiquity. Until his illness became pronounced, Carroll enjoyed several activities such as golfing, skiing, and walking for exercise. Carroll was a 33rd degree Scottish Right Free Mason, and maintained membership in the Idaho Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Judge denies petition for gender-neutral designation MEDFORD (AP) — A judge has denied a Medford resident’s request to identify as neither male nor female. Jackson County Circuit Court Benjamin Bloom on Thursday denied Amiko- Gabriel Oscar Blue’s petition, saying he does not believe Oregon law allows him to grant her a neutral or non-binary gender designation. Blue says she was surprised by the judge’s denial, since a Multnomah County Circuit Court judge in June allowed Jamie Shupe to legally change to a non-binary designation. Experts believe it was the first ruling of its kind in the U.S. The Mail-Tribune reports that judges in Oregon have delivered mixed decisions on the issue though most have said neutral or non-binary designations are not allowed. Blue said she has never identified as male or female. Another judge denied a similar request she made in 2015.
