DEATH NOTICES Betty Fox Milton-Freewater Feb. 7, 1932-Nov. 9, 2016 Betty Jean Fox, 84, of Milton-Freewater died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, in College Place. She was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Enterprise. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home chapel in Milton-Freewater. Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. On Friday, November 4, 2016, Bill Hensley lost his battle with diabetes, having endured nine years of dialysis. He passed suddenly and peacefully en route to treatment. He was born Billie Dale Hensley to parents Laura and Harvey Hensley on June 9, 1926, in Osborne County, Kansas. He spent most of his childhood in the Dixie area outside of Notus, Idaho. A graduate of Notus High School, he said he was Hensley handed his diploma and draft papers at the same time. He was drafted in to the U.S. Army and later transferred to the Navy. He said that “if I would have stayed in two more weeks I would have been in the Marine Corps too.” Returning to Idaho, he was married to Darlene Mae Laeger, August 22, 1950, in Caldwell, Idaho. The couple settled in Burns, Oregon, where Bill worked for Edward Hines Lumber Company. After having two boys the family was lured to the big city of Pendleton, Oregon, in 1955. He entered a partnership with his broth- er-in-law Lyle Laeger in a gas station. Later he was a mechanic with the Volvo dealership. In 1960 he was hired on with the U.S. Forest Service where he stayed until retiring as fleet manager for the Umatilla-Wal- lowa-Whitman Forest. He was widowed in 1982 and never remarried. Bill enjoyed restoring his Model A and 1951 Ford pickups. He also made countless ornaments and gadgets for his lady friends and neigh- bors. The forever handyman kept bicycles and cars working for his two boys and the other kids along with lawnmowers and what-have-you for many friends. He was a member of the Blue Mountain Model A Club, the Elks and the Eagles Lodge. He will be missed. Bill is survived by his two sons Stephen Jay of Middleton, Idaho, and Michael Ray of Pendleton, Ore., along with a niece, Pam Lathrop of Mountain Home, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Harvey Hensley and Laura Bell (Dobbin) Hensley; a sister, Maxine Moore of Mountain Home, Idaho; a nephew, Ric Moore, also of Mountain Home, Idaho; and his beloved wife Darlene Mae, along with most of his friends. Game troopers transported the carcass to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, 73471 Mytinger Lane, Pendleton, for a necropsy. 11:48 a.m. - A horse owner told the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office the operator of a boarding facility near Milton-Freewater gave away her horse, although, she said, she was behind on her boarding lease. Still, she said she wanted to speak to a deputy. 12:08 p.m. - Pendleton police received a tip about people dumping their garbage behind Melanie Square, 1734 S.W. Court Ave. 1:25 p.m. - Pendleton police received information about a possible statutory sex crime. 4:23 p.m. - People who were in a purple Dodge pickup and a white Toyota pickup could be in some trouble for illegal dumping at the Stanfield city compost site. They tried to hide garbage sacks under brush and grass clippings, and the attempts are on video. 2:37 p.m. - A woman on Southwest 18th Street, Pendleton, reported a neighbor from across the street came to her property, exposed himself and urinated on her car tire. He wore jeans and a green jacket with a hood and walked toward Southwest 19th Street. 3:44 p.m. - Pendleton parents reported their pre-teen son thinks someone in a large white SUV has been following him while he does his paper route, so they took him on the route and he identified the vehicle in question. They asked for an officer to come to their home. 3:52 p.m. - Two boys, each about 9, ran around holding boards with nails or bolts sticking out while at Pioneer Park, 400 N.W. Despain Ave., Pendleton. 7:57 p.m. - A Pendleton man reported someone entered his vehicle on Southeast 17th Street and stole a “bug out” survival bag, a .22-caliber rifle with folding stock and ammunition that was with the firearm. 8:30 p.m. - A man on South Water Street, Weston, used a baseball bat to beat on a car and smash two of its windows. He also argued with another man. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office took a report. 9:49 p.m. - The Spokane Police Department asked Pendleton police to check on the welfare of a young boy whose mother took him out of state and placed him with relatives in Pendleton. He died on November 13, 2016, in Richland, Washington, at the age of 69 years. Dan was raised and attended schools in Arizona. He enlisted in the United States Army and fought in Vietnam. Dan was awarded the Purple Heart and received an honor- able discharge. He moved to Utah in 1976 and then to Alaska in 1979 before settling in Oregon in the mid 1980s, where he has lived since. Dan was united in marriage to Judith K. “Judy” Dreger on November 20, 1993, in Stanfield, Noth Oregon. He worked as both a local and long haul truck driver over the years, finishing his career driving for JR Simplot. Dan loved hot rods and rodeos. He was a member of the Hermiston Classic Car Club. Dan enjoyed playing cribbage, animals, and traveling.
